MemberI would keep the machine as delivered for about a week in case you have any warranty issues. Then go for it 🙂

MemberOriginally I formatted my HDD into one partition by installing WinXP from a USB boot stick loaded with a copy of the blue Samsung System Recovery CD.
As I added more operating systems (Windows 7 and Linux) I reduced the size of the WinXP partition to make room for the others.

MemberOk so is it ok for me to do that? is it ok for me to delete everything, every single partition out the box and format the single partition to winxp via usb dvd drive and be safe? As i will have the restore cd and dvd?

ParticipantUsmarinedelta, thought I’d post my reply to your message here as well:-
The F4 recovery will only work once you’ve run through the initial setup, all the F4 does is to reimage the C partition so that it’s the same as just after you finished the initial setup. So F4 will also restore any software that Samsung loaded onto the NC10.
Read thought the setup process carefully so you don’t miss the part where you choose the size of the partitions, unless you want a 50/50 split between the C and D partitions.
The Windows XP disk that comes with the NC10 will enable you to perform a clean install, you could then either download the software/drivers you want from Samsungs website or use the driver disk. You will need an external USB optical drive to do this though.
However I wouldn’t bother doing this myself as the NC10 comes with very little junk, most of which can be removed anyway. The major piece of junk is the trial of McAfee which can be uninstalled via add/remove programs and then completely removed by running McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe), Google will find it.
Other than McAfee there are some wallpapers and a screensaver though these don’t really use much in the way or resources. The only other pieces of software you may consider removing are the Samsung Magic Doctor which is supposed to help fix problems and Samsung Recovery Solution III which is a backup program. The rest is either drivers or software to make certain things work like the brightness controls.

MemberHI Jeepers
Back again. been looking around the forum but want to make sure I have the correct info. Can you advise if it is possible or how do I replace / renew the recovery partition files in the eisa drive. The installation has a user name and password that seems to be set everytime someone does a full restore.
I was thinking along the lines of making a new recovery installation to add a new user say ‘User’ and then deleting the original set user and profile that is currently permanently within the Recovery installation. I then want to use this new configuration as the basis for future recovery installations, ie make a new startup image ready for F4 / reinstall without the former user account.
Has anyone found if this can be performed?

MemberYOu can rebuild the entire HDD and change the partitions etc using the Blue Samsung CD.
These CD’s are all the same for each Model (ie NP-NC10-xx00xx) so getting hold of a disk should be easy. The Windows CD key is pre-registered to Samsung Hardware. The username used at first registration is permanently built into the HDD image. This can’t be undone.
I don’t know of any other way to get the image reloaded, other than sending it for service.

Participantjimbojim – Make a backup of your current configuration with either SRS3 or SRS4 applications after setting up your preferred user account. Copy and replace the new backup files into the Recovery partition and you should achieve your goal. The files that need to be replaced are init.wcl and init.woo and make sure the file titles are exactly the same as in your current Recovery partition.
Use EASEUS Partition Master (free) to unhide/inspect and to re-hide the recovery partition so [F4] at boot will function.
Hope this helps

MemberJust thought I’d pop back and say thank you for your information Jeepers. I ended up with a new default user, customised installation and it all backed up to the recovery partition with no problems. I also made a couple of ‘initial Start up images’ due to making some additional changes to the first one, then I performed a couple of F4 restores. All rocking and rolling…I think, well everything seems to running just fine including the HSPA. Once again thank you for sharing your knowledge.
