Help about recovery

Can anyone help me with the recovery procedure for the N150. I’ve searched around on this site but haven’t been able to find anything. Reading the N150 reviews on Amazon.com, it seems that several users have problems understanding Samsung’s recovery strategy.

I’ve been reading the manual describing the procedure. The Samsung Recovery Solution provides two icons for backing up the software: Backup and System Software. On my notebook, under Backup there are two options: Complete Backup and Data Backup; under System Software there are two options: System Software Installation and System Sofware Backup.

I find this all confusing. On my desktop, I can create a bootable CD using the recovery partition on the hard disk. How do I do this for the N150, given that it has no CD drive? I used the System Software Backup option to create backup software on my memory stick. How do I use this to recreate my Samsung installation if the hard disk becomes corrupted?

The Samsung Recovery procedures are explained here

The software allows for backups to external DVD and HDD drives although you can back up to the system D: drive (or C: drive) but external media is a far more secure method.

Jeepers, thanks for the reply.

I have one question. If I need to restore from external media, will the recovery software allow me to read from the media. That is, during system startup, will the machine be able to access the media during startup, if Windows cannot boot from the internal hard disk? The backup I made contains a .exe file, which implies that Windows must be available and be running to access it.

Or did I miss something in the documentation?
