Hey guys,
You don’t want to miss this one. We’ve got the first full review of the MSI Wind U115.
MSI combines a solid state and hard disk drive for optimal battery life and storage. But we found some real issues with that solution. The battery lasted longer than any notebook we’ve tested, but running Windows on an 8GB drive is less than optimal. See what we mean in the full review.
“…the U115’s battery bested the record-setting U123 by lasting a full 7 hours and 52 minutes on our Wi-Fi video-streaming test.â€
“A tap of the key combination Fn+F10 temporarily turns off the power-sucking platter-based hard drive, allowing the system to run solely from the power-sipping SSD.â€

Thanks for sharing seander01. The smaller SSD drives do put me off a little – but I see there is the standard 160gb drive option. I wouldn’t want to be deciding what I should and shouldn’t install all the time. Although when they get bigger and cheaper I look forward to SSD drives becoming common place.
You can turn the hdd off during use or after a reboot?
If I only had 8GB of SSD space to have everything I needed on I’d be stuck. I found the 16 GB SSD on my eeepc 900 was slightly lacking for my use.
Also if you can turn it off during runtime, would this not have stability implications on running programs and open files?
