MemberIt seems new Asus Eee PCs debut on a biweekly basis, but this one is special. According to the reviewer, this $400 netbook calls to mind MacBook Air style for a quarter of the price. That claim is sure to stir some feelings in both directions, but ComputerShopper gave it an Editors’ Choice award.

MemberYeah I can never remember which eee is which lol! But I think the 1008HA is the one that is hotly anticipated right now. Unless I’ve missed something it is not ground breaking but at that price it seems an attractive proposition.

MemberWow that thing looks awesome. I’d love to have a hands on play with it. Not as thin as the Macbook Air but it looks pretty close.
The base looks a bit curved, looks like it would wobble on a flat surface lol. Anyone had a play with one?

MemberOh, what a good looking machine! Not tempting enough to compete with the white NC10 I own, but gorgeous none the less.
I would pay for style though, but not if it meant compromise on useful things like battery life. And yeah I have a thing about this matte screen after owning a glossy one before.June 17, 2009 at 6:44 am #192634Rich99
MemberAnd when the battery is dead… The netbook is… ?
I like my sammy… i like it a lot 🙂June 17, 2009 at 2:55 pm #192638kaotix
MemberIf the battery is dead I’m sure Asus will replace it for you if you sent the laptop to them at your own expensive and pay for a new battery to be installed and then pay to have it returned to you. What’s the problem? lol.
I like the idea of passive cooling for a netbook and would like to actually see some temperature guidelines for it under load.
Is the Macbook Air passively cooled?June 17, 2009 at 5:02 pm #192635Rich99
MemberSorry i can’t answer your Mackbook question, but i do think you fully described what could be a problem with your “Whats the problem” question. Paying for 2 way shipping may not be such a big deal but with several days or possably weeks of downtime along with personal info stored on the HD may cause some to consider another model…

MemberI was being sarcastic. I think it’s stupid that you cant remove the battery. My old Compaq has a battery that sort of ‘dropped’ out of the bottom of the laptop. It wasn’t a slide out or anything, something similar could be used i feel.

Sold on eBay and replaced with a new model with twice the performance, better screen, larger HD/SSD, and much more memory for about the same price? :)June 18, 2009 at 8:07 am #192628jez
MemberI remember thinking that when the 1st generation iPods came out – “what, you can’t change the battery!”. But in reality people either get new ones or you can send them off to get the battery replaced.
Not very “green” though. And I’m not a fan of unchangeable batteries for sure.

No, it has a fan.June 18, 2009 at 8:57 am #192636Rich99
MemberAlfihar, I tried to answer that question for Kaotix. I checked Apple’s web site and could not find any info. I checked a few retailers read all the specs and watched a couple of utube Macbook Air video’s and once again nothing. But as usual you have the answer lol. This forum is fortunate to have you…

ParticipantI remembered reading some threads on various Apple boards where some people were having a problem with the fan running constantly on high.
There’s a teardown of the Macbook Air on the ifixit site, I’m assuming that the design hasn’t changed with the late 2008 revision as it wasn’t a major change. You can also see how to remove/replace the battery in those pictures as well.
