'Fit notes' to replace sick notes

So are you supposed to go back to the doctor once you are fit to get a note????? (and maybe whilst you are in the waiting room catch a bug and be sick some more). “Sorry I can’t come in today I have to go to the doctors to get my fit note” etc. etc. seems silly to me.

That’s nothing new. My company has been working this way for a long time. Every time I wanted to go back to work after my sickness, I had to show them that note from the doctor that I can work.
