MemberSo i have always been a fan of desktop computers, sitting at a desk and generally being “plugged in” somewhere permanent. When laptops first started getting popular i was of the opinion that the people who bought them only did so because they knew nothing about computers and assumed that a portable PC was better than a desktop variant.
How wrong i was.
It wasn’t until this new wave of netbook computers came along that i took notice of the fact you have more or less everything you need in something the size and weight of a magazine. This enables you to use the computer whilst in bed, on the sofa, on the move or even whilst dropping the kids off a the pool 😉
I spent ages pouring over laptops, at first i wanted the N310 because it looks simply amazing. I would almost go as far as to say it looks more appealing than any of the current Mactops (with the exception of the mac book air of course).
I was a little put off by the price so i was aiming more towards the NC10 as it had more or the less the exact same spec. It was then that i started looking at the specs more closely and realised that some 10inch netbooks have “improved” processors and larger hardrives and extended battery life.
At that point i came very close to buying an EEE PC, not because of the clamshell (promise) but just for the price + specs for that price.
Anyway, im glad to say i stumbled accross this forum somewhere along the way because i noticed that Samsung had a 12″ NC20, initially i thought i wanted more portability so my focus went back to the NC10.
When i went in to purchase my netbook i instantly found that i preferred the size and feel of a 12″ to a 10″ so it was more or less a case of back to the drawing board (after a nervous 5 min spell where i nearly bought an 11.6″ HP with 2gb RAM)
The first place i looked when i got home was here and read more or less everything thread, every review and every piece of information on the NC20 that this site has to offer.
With all you guys timeless help, in helping others, has in turn helped me to make my choice.
Anyway, my NC20 arrived 20 mins ago, right now my “sammy” (ive been waiting to say that) is chopping up my hard drive into partitions…and POOF…its finished.
You might see the odd post from me here but if not then thanks again for all the help. Very much appreciated.

MemberHi Jamixtreme.
Welcome to the forum and thank you for your kind comments about the forum 🙂
I guess I would say this, wouldn’t I, but I love my NC10. It goes with me almost everywhere – my partner objected to me trying to slip it in my jacket when were going to the opera – and it’s proving very reliable and has coped with everything I’ve thrown at it

Queen of Spades, 15 May 2009, WNO at the Wales Millennium Centre.Great performance, so I was actually pleased I left my Sammy at home. Sorry Sammy 😉
If I had managed to sneak my NC10 past the management (i.e. my better half) do you think it would qualify for Jez’s Extreme Netbooking 😕

MemberHi Jamixtreme,
You are right, laptops are generally used as portable desktops machines, more often than not being moved from one desk to another and used on mains power. In fact I remember one manufacturer even having an offering with no battery at all a few years ago.
These little things generally seem to exceed a lot of people’s expectations, even with what is considered a ‘weak’ Atom processor. No comparison to a power PC, but eminently useful with the batteries and power saving technology of today.
Enjoy your new acquisition

MemberWelcome Jamixtreme, I know exactly what you mean – my NC10 was my first “laptop” too and I wasn’t prepared for the difference it makes. I love how you can access the net quickly and easily from anywhere, pass it round, sit on the sofa with the Mrs etc. Being on the net suddenly became less solitary.
@Jayne lol netbook at the opera, yep that would qualify!! I went to the Millennium Centre last year, was amazing. Makes the London theatres seem very dated.

It is a superb facility – just like the Millennium Stadium. We are really lucky to have such great venues in a city with a population of around 330,000.September 24, 2009 at 5:11 pm #199758swampy_donkey
MemberHahaha I’m up for some extreme netbooking. I am starting to take the N110 more and more places, so hopefully a good op will arise shortly!
