MemberThanks again! Well, I really hope it’s the RAM so I can be assured it has nothing to do with my Sammy.
I checked on the web that there’s a tool to check your RAM (memtest), I will try this first, then re-seat it and try the memtest again. If no luck I will, as mentioned, replace it by the old RAM. As long as it works I’m fine.
Also I found out that a faulty RAM could cause FF to crash so fingers crossed 😀 My antivirus (Comodo) crashed just before as well.Btw. when I run Samsung Magic Doctor it tells me that my preferences for virtual memory is invalid. Can I trust this program at all?
My prefs are as follows, I’m sorry it’s in German.

Membersturm1909 – I know there is some debate about the benefits of virtual memory with XP, but since upgrading my NC20 to 2GB I have had VM disabled. I have noticed no problems associated with this. If your 2GB card checks out OK, you might like to try switching VM off and see how it goes.
Using the original 1GB card will not have much effect on performance, but to make the best use of 1GB, you could reduce the amount of RAM used by the video from 256MB to 128MB. This is a simple setting in the BIOS. So far as I can see, you only need 256MB for video if you are using a second screen.

MemberThe memtest turned out to be OK after letting it run for a few hours. I re-seated the 2GB RAM now and had a close at it.
I uploaded a picture of it. I hope it is clear enough. I recognized a few scratches (very small ones, about 3 on the golden bit on top) of which I caught one on camera:

It’s more on the left side but still right of the small gap of the RAM. Could this bring any problems with it?After the next crash I will try my old 1GB again.

Participantsturm1909 – I had a look at the picture and as long as there are no bridges between the contacts it should be fine.
Just be careful to observe anti-static precautions when handling the module 😀
The acid test is to try the 1GB module.Hope this helps and let us know how it goes

MemberThanks again jeepers01 🙂
I was just about to post that I suffered serveral FF crashes but no Windows crashes when Windows just crashed as well… My only hope is trying the 1GB RAM now. If this doesn’t work I will re-install Windows (I haven’t done this yet as I don’t have an external CD drive and haven’t looked up how I can configure a bootable USB drive). If this doesn’t work out I will have to send my Sammy to repair which I really want to avoid as I doubt that they will fix it… 🙁
Btw. jeepers, I’m sorry my English isn’t that good so what do you mean by “be careful to observe anti-static precautions”? Do you mean not to shake it all around? 😀 It might have been shaken in my bag when I went back home with the new packed RAM from just buying it but I doubt this causes a damage of the RAM? I know this question must sound silly hehe.

MemberHi sturm1909,
jeepers01 is referring to static electricity, which may damage the components in your RAM stick.
You will have noticed that your RAM came in a silvery bag, this is to prevent damage from static electricity. Normally earthing yourself and careful handling is enough to avoid affecting the RAM adversely.

I believe that has helped a few forum members with machine crashes as there appear to be several driver versions.
As you have checked out the ram with memtest successfully the video driver is perhaps a possible solution. However try also your 1BG ram module as well.
You can re-install the system without an external CD drive by pressing F4 at boot up and then choosing Full Recovery with the Samsung Recovery Solution software. You will loose all data on the C: drive though so make backups before doing the restore.

I know this question must sound silly hehe.Don’t apologise for you english it does you proud. The anti-static precautions is where the body builds up an electrical charge which can damage electrical components such as ram modules. These electrical charges can be earthed on a water pipe for example but when you handle the ram try not to touch the contacts or any components with your fingers. There is a better explanation here which may help.
btw: don’t worry, there is no such thing as a silly question on this forum 🙂

MemberConcerning the video chrome driver I had this problem once when I first updated my driver without knowing of this issue and then rolled back. Now I haven’t updated anything and I got the problem-free 182 version.
I also re-installed the system a few days ago with Samsung Recovery Solution software. So this FF/system freezing because of the driver hasn’t really been a problem of mine. Thanks for the useful link! I’m pretty scared now of ever touching my Sammy insides again to be honest! 😀
Update: I replaced 1GB RAM and my Sammy (and FF) is working for about 2 hours without any problem now, fingers crossed it stays like that. So I will take the 2GB RAM back and hope they repair it or give me a new one instead otherwise I will most likely leave the 1GB inside now I read about static electricity! 😀
Update no.2: It’s been working without any problems! 🙂 I’ve been using it for about 4-5 hours now without anything!!
Thanks a lot!!! 🙂
Edit: Just another question: I heard my Sammy beeping twice now (even when silenced). It’s not the battery, what could it be?
