Memberrecently ff has crashed a several times and was forced to restart. causes of what i can think of are: igoogle (with gmail and calendar implementation), maybe facebook and today it crashed after my girlfriend played “bubbles”, a browser flash game.
can you think of any reason? or what can be done about it? my other laptop seems to do fine with the same ff version so it must be something with my sammy. i suggested to my girlfriend to play on IE but the same happened here after a while playing “bubbles”.
help is much appreciated!
ps: i have adobe flash player 10 and sun java installed. samsung update plus is switched off and rarely used.
and windows xp sp3edit: ff version is the latest 3.5.6, IE only 6 (as i never use it)

MemberHi sturm1909,
The only time recently when Firefox has crashed on me is just after installing the latest beta Flash 10. I forget which exact version now, but after I rolled back to the previous Flash then my crashing stopped.
I think that might be the first place to look.

Participantsturm1909 – I does look as though Flash could be the problem as it’s the common link between FF and IE when playing Bubbles.
Try re-installing Flash 10. I found 10.1 didn’t perform as well as version 10 and reverted back to 10.Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

Memberthanks the boh of you! i had version 10.0.38 or something installed and updated to 10.0.42
let’s see how it performs.but unfortunatelly i’m facing other problems with the netbook at the moment. programs don’t work properly (ff, IE, antivirus update). i might go with some windows updating which i actually switched off.

MemberHi sturm1909 🙂
The other thing to try is FileHippo.com Update Checker which will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to FileHippo.com to see if there are any newer releases. These are then neatly displayed in your browser for you to download. Not all programs are supported, but it does pick up the more commonly installed software.

MemberThank you TCMuffin! I will have it a go and report to you all how everything worked out. At the moment I’m installing 82 Windows updates! 😀
I also let my girlfriend play her flash game after a couple of installations for about 15 min to see and it was alright but 15 min is just too less to make any assumptions I guess!
Edit: as mentioned I haven’t been running Samsung Update Plus for a while now. Are there any important updates which I should install?
Edit 2: Installed all the Windows updates and FF just crashed right now… Will check out TCMuffin’s website tomorrow 🙂 but to be honest I’m not too hopefull.

MemberThere are older Flash versions on Adobe’s website to try, along with uninstallation instructions too.

Participantsturm1909 – You could also try a complete removal and then re-install of FF. Backup (export) your bookmarks and make a note of any Add-ons you have as these will be lost in the process.
After re-install FF will prompt to update Flash and will automatically choose the version to install.
Good luck and hope it helps

MemberThank you guys again for helping! Much appreciated! I re-installed FF, installed the Hippo, re-installed Flash and updated Windows to its fullest.
I let you know how my Sammy copes with this all!! 🙂December 31, 2009 at 3:21 am #208319sturm1909
MemberOK, to keep you updated. My problem seems to be more serious than I would want it to. The netbook crashes several times and restarts automatically. I have absolutelly no clue what to do about it. I have hardly used the Sammy yet but now I do it doesn’t want to work.
Any ideas? It is pretty disappointing seeing my netbook going down like this after only having purchased it recently. I might re-install Windows and put W7 on it to try it. I just hope it’s not some hardware problem.
Edit: I just ran Samsung Solution Center and recovered the system to the date I got the netbook delivered. Let’s see and fingers crossed! 🙂

MemberHi ‘sturm1909’, I remember having had similar issues with my freshly updated NC20 and Firefox 3.5+ and that was due to a buggy video driver from VIA. Maybe you should take a close look at this thread in the forum, where I posted a solution. I strongly suspect that it will quickly solve your problems.
Regards, and a Happy New Year (to you and to the rest of the Sammy community, BTW).

MemberHi plevi! Thanks for your answer! I just re-read the thread and I’m not sure if I have the same problem as mentioned there. I don’t get lock-ups, my system just crashes and re-starts itself. Another problem is FF which crashes as well and then asks me if I want to quit the program or re-start it. Also had some internet issue with IE too.
And I haven’t updated any Samsung software yet, so I still have the Chrome driver 182 which is said to work without problems but doesn’t for me.
What’s annoying me the most is that my system crashes. I just made a system recovery but still the same as experienced an hour ago. I get this error message after the re-start: Error Code 1000008e, 1. Parameter c0000005, 2. Parameter 56880ba6, 3. Parameter a661bfb8, 4. Parameter 00000000.
I googled it and found a recommendation to disable re-starts on errors to check what causes it.No-one else experiencing the same? I don’t want to send my Sammy back to get it repaired which might take a month and then still might not work. It’s pretty frustrating. I wanted to use the netbook for Uni but i can’t rely on it when it just crashes all of the time…
Could the 2GB RAM cause this problem? I haven’t used the Sammy that much when I only had 1GB so I can’t really compare.
Or could it be Windows Update? Or maybe Windows Media Player 11 or IE8?
PS: Happy New Year to you guys too!! 🙂

Membersturm1909,
yes, it could be RAMDecember 31, 2009 at 9:11 pm #208307jeepers01
Participantsturm1909 – Try re-seating the ram module first then if no luck put in your 1GB ram module and see if that cures it. If so the 2GB ram is faulty.
Hope this helps
