MemberThis thread will likely hold relevance only till 22nd October when Win7 will be released and Samsung will release the Win7 drivers then or soon after for the N510.
But until then, I can’t wait! 😛 So I’m installing the beta and for that I’d be grateful if you guys and girls could provide any links you may have to drivers.
Thanks very much!
EDIT: Amended as per TCMuffin’s post. Thank you!

MemberOkay, so I’ve installed Win7 fresh with no other OS. Booted up with a bootable Win7 USB and tada.
Well, it feels cold… and lonely because many things are not working and since the N510 is still relatively new, not many have taken the jump to Win7.
So, the first piece of advice is to make WiFi work, and if like mine, yours didn’t work, then simply connect the LAN cable going from your modem to your Sammy N510 and chose Windows Update.
From my guess, it seems that those with the UK Sammy N510 have the N280 processor and Realtek RT8192e drivers. For those with the French (amongst other) Sammy N510s, I stuspect that the N270 processor may be paired with an Atheros WLAN module.
After connecting the LAN cable and doing Windows update, the optional section offers the aforementioned Realtek drivers, and hey presto, the WiFi, and hence internet is working after a restart.

MemberOK, so the next thing that you may find MIA in terms of drivers is Nvidia’s bunch. Well the Win7 update provides HD audio drivers which I’m pretty sure is to route the audio from your laptop to the TV screen if you have HDMI. Well, this is a bit silly since Windows Update doesn’t even provide display drivers and yet it does that.
So the next step is easy. Navigate to nvidia, com, choose whether to dload WHQL-signed or beta drivers (which are newer but unstable) and make sure you choose Win7, and there you have it.

MemberI found with clean install, reformatted disk to delete recovery partition, windows 7 installed without a hitch. Connected LAN to update windows but Realtek WLAN update didnt work for me. However I found rtl8192se drivers [not rtl8192e] which worked.
Nvidia site for ion drivers and video up and running. Then I ran the samsung CD from usb drive and clicked on SoftwareCD.exe [not AutoRun.exe] and everything else installed. I think a lot of the cd drivers are XP and or W7 compatable. Still testing but everything seem to work and its FAST…

MemberI took the plunge and bought a n510, as I can buy win7 through work for £30.
you say it’s quick, like proper noticeably quick, what about in games. Did you also have to install another gig of RAM?

Well, the Windows Experience Index gives a score of 2.3. And guess what alone brings the score down? GPU? RAM? Uh-uh: the processor. Yep, the processor gives a relatively low score of 2.3 compared to the next lowest score being that of the graphics; which is 3.7. That’s a big jump.As for games performance, I haven’t compared with XP, but I’m totally satisfied with Win7’s performance in this dept. Just check out the games thread in the N510 subforum. My tests are there.
As yet, I haven’t installed any extra RAM apart from the 1GB stock RAM.
My only gripe with Win7 is the slow navigation through folders in Windows Explorer. It’s not awfully slow, especially after a Ccleaner run-through through the registry. But there is a split-second lag, that was totally non-existent in WinXP. This is the only noticeable slowdown. I hope MS rectifies this. Maybe I need to defrag after installing Win7 so I’ll try that some time.
Anyhow, back on topic!

MemberGot a 2gb of 800mhz of RAM on order, will wait anxiously until WIndows 7 is released (I don’t know where people are getting pre-release copies!) and hope that samsung release all the correct drivers so I can wang ahead and get windows 7 on before I get too involved and install too many programs!

I don’t know where people are getting pre-release copies!
[/quote1255258701]There are a couple of legit sources, either people are MS employees (there are a couple on this forum), have access to technet/MSDN etc releases (I have a vague recollection of our tech team at work having access to it in that way), or they are using the public Beta/RC edition from MS still.
Or maybe some people are being naughty – but we don’t want to know about that on this forum ;)!
