Memberthanks for your help.
i installed connection manager and when i started the program up it already had all of my sim settings including message centre, etc.
no need to set anything up it was all done automagically.
is the sim card slot just hsdpa modem or could it use my sim for phone calls. i seem to be able to send and recieve sms with it already.

ParticipantYes the CM software has over 100 profiles pre-set, it was lucky the one it chose automatically worked for you. I had to set up the profiles manually on mine to get it to work.
You will be able to send and receive text messages and 3G/HSDPA data only. No voice calls though.
Glad it’s all working as it’s a bonus because you didn’t realise you had 3G! Make sure you have a data plan else the charges can be very expensive.
If you need Bluetooth there are lots of BT USB dongles to choose from so I wouldn’t feel too hard done by 🙂

Memberi have a bluetooth dongle so that is not too bad.
i am not sure about my data plan.
i have free mobile internet on my phone, i can use as much data as needed on my phone for a fixed charge each month. i presume i will be to use this.

If you have free internet for a fixed charge then that is what I meant by the term data plan.
Sounds like your onto a winner 🙂August 17, 2009 at 10:05 pm #198628jeepers01

Check in CM the profile settings it is using to successfully connect. Then compare those with the settings in your phone. I would guess they are the same (else it wouldn’t work)Perhaps you could use the internet in your sammy for a measured amount of time and see if anything is reflected in your next bill. I would think you will be ok but it’s worth checking to give peace of mind.
There is another option to save you changing the sim over each time. Have a look at this thread Using your mobile phone as a bluetooth modem but it kind of defeats the purpose of having 3G already built into your sammy! 🙂

MemberFWIW – I have an O2 mobile with unlimited web as a bolt-on. I use my mobile as a BT modem when I’m away from a wifi network.
For example, when we had a fortnight’s holiday in North Wales, I was exclusively using my mobile and NC10 to connect to the internet to catch up with emails, do online banking, googling for pubs in Llandudno with sky sports and dogs welcome (to see the Lions test match) and I didn’t exceed my limit on an unlimited web bolt on.

Memberi hope this is the case with me. i do a bit of camping and i am off to wales in september. i am currenlty studying for my masters and the week after our next camp i have two assignments to hand in.
to know that i can log in and continue with my work wherever i am, is going to make things much easier and less stressful.
