ParticipantMy NC10 had been working OK since I bought it in Jan 09 but I hadn’t used it much. Today I thought I had better use the Samsung recovery program that backs up the C drive onto D which was set up on the default 50/50 partition from new.
The program did a full back up of the 17GB C drive and then re booted. I noticed that it was running very slow and also that the D partition was empty and a widow came up asking me if I wanted to format it. I shut it down in the normal way and started it again and now it wont boot up. I just get the black boot up options screen with a horizontal segment progress bar at the bottom which gradually moves across and then some text flashes on the screen and then goes back to the boot options screen. Sometimes I get the windows logo with the blue progress bar but after a few minutes it goes back to the boot options. I have tried booting in normal, last good config and safe mode. Once i got a screen saying auto check prog not found then crashed back again. Can anybody help pleaseSeptember 4, 2009 at 9:28 am #199632gjf60
ParticipantI still haven’t found a solution to this. I disabled the auto restart on system failure and got these error codes *** STOP: 0X0000007B(0XF7A2E524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). Im running XP SP3 with 1 GB Ram and the model is NP-NC10KA03UK
Do you think I should try F4 Samsung recovery solution In the book it says, “In quick restore mode there is basic restore which it says restores the major windows files only while maintaining the user config and data on the C drive.” Then if that doesn’t work it says run complete restore which deletes the entire C drive and restores the content of the C drive, presumably taking it back to day one.
Given the way the problem occurred do you think the basic restore might take back to the point I tried to do a full back up above. Should I try to run the chekdisk. Any hep on this appreciatedSeptember 4, 2009 at 10:22 am #199628kaotix
MemberThe *07B message refers to a problem with the boot device, namely C in your case. Basically it sounds like there may be a problem with the partition.
All I can think is if you try and do a full restore and see if that solves it. Failing that you might have to format the drive and re-install XP onto it which would lose your recovery partition should you want to use the restore CD in the future.September 4, 2009 at 2:52 pm #199633gjf60

An option would be to create a bootable USB thumb drive with chkdsk on itSeptember 4, 2009 at 10:22 pm #199629kaotix
MemberCould try a live linux distro with something like QTParted and restore the boot flag to the C drive. Or rebuild the partition table.
For chkdisk, you can check out a live windows repair tool called ‘ERD’ i use it often to fix certain things with clients machines where a quick fix is required. It loads up live onto your current windows install and can edit pretty much anything. Could also backup files using it. Google it.

ParticipantI ended up after talking to Samsung using the Recovery Solution III. I tried doing a basic restore which didn’t work and then doing a complete restore which took me back to day one but after the HDD had been partitioned 50/50. I am now installing the programs I want to bring it back to where it crashed and then I intend to make a compete backup onto an external HDD. My question is on my D partition there are recovery solution files totaling 14.3 GB User1.w01,w02,w03,wcI,woo. Can you tel me what these are and can I safely delete them bearing in mind the above.

MemberAre these not the current restore files of the new installation? I cannot say for sure as I dont have the restore function (I find it useless so I formatted the entire drive to a single partition)
Just googled the w01/02/03 and they appeart to be an archive. Possibly be able to open them in WinRAR or similar. Might have to manually open them in WinRAR though.

ParticipantSamsung told me I could delete these back up files as I am planning to make a a ghost image of my HDD onto an external HDD. Does anyone know if my NP-NC10-KA03UK supports booting from a USB rescue media so that I can use Norton Ghost or Acronis to make a full backup. Im running XP

MemberYou can boot from a USB flash drive, cd/dvd or hard drive. You cannot, however boot from an SDHC card. There shouldn’t be any issues with ghosting the drive, I’ve done it before.
I would actually recommend an older version of norton ghost if you can get it. The new ones are bloated and do things you don’t need. Older ones like v7 are amazing. It will load into DOS before windows and even has mouse support (mouse support in dos lol) You can ghost any drive hooked up to the pc from here onto any other media hooked up.
I use v7 to this day and have never had any issues with large drives/files or even removable media.

ParticipantI will try and get a copy of v7 if I can. Just had a look at the on line manual. Do I have to make some adjustments to the bios or boot up priority or something before it will boot up with a USB rescue media an dis it fairly simple to make one with Norton Ghost

Memberas the others have posted , you could always try to boot into another os from a pendrive or a sd card , I succesfully fixed my old eeepc this way , I installed mac os x to an sd card and formatted the internal disk through that , hope this helps
