July 25, 2009 at 7:32 pm #163102Eddie_951 MemberBeen trying to get a few Sidebar gadjets added to my desktopsidebar from desktopsidebar.com, but I cannot seem to reach the site. This just me or is it the same for everyone? July 25, 2009 at 7:51 pm #197036jeepers01 ParticipantSame here. Site seems to be down at the moment 🙁 July 25, 2009 at 8:40 pm #197039Eddie_951 MemberOkay cool, so long as it isn’t just me. I will re-try tomorrow. July 25, 2009 at 9:45 pm #197037tonytb MemberI tried too, only to find no connection. I downloaded the Thoosje Sidebar instead, only to find that he has removed the Weather gadget as it wasn’t working any more July 28, 2009 at 6:06 am #197040 July 28, 2009 at 6:06 am #197040Eddie_951 MemberStill no sign of this site coming back. Anyone know anyone that might be in contact with the Admin for this site? July 28, 2009 at 8:32 pm #197038tonytb MemberTBH I have gone back to using Vista Rainbar on my XP. The only reason I wished to change was because the weather app ceased to work. But I gather that other sidebar creators use the same, now non-working site, for the info so I would be no better off. July 28, 2009 at 8:41 pm #197041Eddie_951 MemberI did manage to download the desktop Sidebar from another site and I can tell you the weather does work, it comes from the weather channel. Only problem is, apart from the basic stuff that comes with the Desktop Sidebar install, I am not apple to access any other panels 🙁 September 25, 2009 at 6:13 pm #197043jasoninertia Memberany reason why you dont use yahoo widgets that has loads of weather widgets and comes with a nice side bar . September 26, 2009 at 7:26 am #197042Eddie_951 MemberI took a look at this last night on my main computer and it appeared to be slightly more resource hungry than the realtivly compact Desktop Sidebar… I also wanted the widgets to display inside the sidebar, inthe yahoo version they undock and show on the desktop. Perhaps I am not using it correctly, I’ll have another look… December 13, 2010 at 5:45 pm #197044electro1574 MemberLooks like they’ve given up on the domain–desktopsidebar.com doesn’t look like it’s being operated by anyone at the moment. Anyway, not really knowing where to start, I’d really like to take over ownership and/or distribution of Desktop Sidebar if possible. I’m not looking to make it commercial or anything like that, just continue development of it and re-release it as either open-source or, at worst, shareware. I suspect that the original author pulled the site due to lack of support. According to cNet (aka download.com) the company associated with Desktop Sidebar was called Idea2. The only Idea2 I could find was a company that produces custom “cloud” software, and appears to have no relation to the sidebar. If anyone knows how to contact the original owner, please let me know. (Post here or send me a private message here.) In case s/he can never be reached, please also advise if you have any .dspackage files you’re willing to share. If there’s enough interest, I’ll set up a repository for it as abandonware until someone complains. 🙂 This is a fantastic program, and in my opinion, still *much* better than any other sidebar, gadget, or widget option there is out there! Thanks.
