March 7, 2010 at 3:53 pm #165365Ken_B MemberThe NC20 has a number of features I dearly like. Here’s what I’d like in a replacement/refresh in 6-12 months: What to keep: 1) Leave the keyboard and monitor and enclosure alone. You hit the perfect form factor with 1280×800 on a laptop that’s 8.5×11″ – the same size as most textboks.
 2) You make the nicest laptop keyboards around. I bought this computer for the keyboard based on reviews, and it exceeded my expectations in every way.
 3) Leave the screen size and resolution alone. 1280×800 is JUST enough bigger than 1024×60 to be very useful, and not so high a resolution (like the 1366×728 on 11.6″ screens) that it causes my eyes to hurt.
 4) I love being able to upgrade the RAM and hard drive. What to change: 1) Please upgrade the innards to an Intel Atom 470 CPU with NVIDIA ION 2nd Gen processing.
 2) Make sure the NVIDIA Ion output port is DVI or HDMI (HDMI preferred)
 3) Please use the higher density batteries you’ve been putting on things. Yes, it’s only a few hundred mAH, but those translate into extra minutes of unplugged time.
 4) Please allow 4 GB of RAM in the case.
 5) Please put some sort of texture on the touch pad. Please keep the same utilities for the touch pad that are currently there.
 6) Offer a CULV version in the same case, with a solid state drive.I am an exceedingly happy N20 customer. I know ASUS will have something very similar to this on the market at some point. I would rather pay you the extra $100 or so for the same components for your superior build quality, durability and keyboard design. You should do 🙂 March 7, 2010 at 4:31 pm #211456jez MemberI think if/when I trade in my NC10 I will consider something a little bigger. Those extra vertical pixels would make a big difference but without venturing into bulkier/heavier notebook territory. oh, and I do see referrals from Samsung.net on this site (their corporate network), so someone there is keeping at least half an eye on what we are writing!) Actually this may well have already happened since they increased the trackpad size fairly smartly after the NC10 was released to market. Also I notice that the new range has gone back to matte screens after numerous complaints about the glossy screens on second generation models. But the overriding issue for me is the processor power. IMHO the new processors offered are not a step far enough. The move to HD support is welcome but higher screen resolutions with good aspect ratios are still required. March 8, 2010 at 12:53 am #211479mph100 MemberLove my nc10, although an extra 1″ or so always helps(want slightly bigger screen) i cant seem to find an ideal replacement.
What i want is a netbook with that extra screen space running on win 7 premium, not the starter version.I dont see why i should pay for the upgrade, if it works why not put it on from the start?
Anyway sticking with my nc10 running xp and happy with it…… for now………
What’s coming out next?March 8, 2010 at 11:59 am #211471Bismarck MemberI’d say, please don’t change to atom/ION (than it would just be another N510), but instead go with the new Nano U3100, which is even faster than the U2250 (and use less power), so totally superior to an Atom. Also slap in the VIA VN1000 chipset, for hardware acceleration. Also replace the glary screen for a matte one. Apart from that, all I like is bigger battery capacity (at least until VIA lauches their dualcore Nano’s). March 8, 2010 at 2:13 pm #211465angelwolf71885 Member[quote1268057624=Bismarck]

Atom 270/450 10″ screen (no need to change)‘Better’ netbook £250-£300
Nano U3100 possibly Broadcom HD card 10″-11″ screenCheap laptop £300-£350
CULV possibly ION 11″-12″ screenDoes it sound right? March 9, 2010 at 9:40 am #211472Bismarck Member[quote1268124878=PMCC]

[/quote1268124878]I don’t mind the 12″ (I think that’s close to optimal, considering you need some screen estate to keep the perfect 1280×800 resolution). An HD-card would not be necessary either, if cpu/chipset are upgraded to VIA’s latest. But most important: change to the matte screen (like the NC10 had). I think an even higher price is acceptable (the NC20 started at €440 too). March 10, 2010 at 2:07 am #211470hjsnc20 MemberWhat I like to see improved in the next-gen NC20? Well… 1) Dual-core, multi-thread CPU
 2) HD&Gaming-capable GPU with HDMI out
 3) Full-size keyboard – NOT just 97%, 98%, 99%, or whatever% < 100%!!!!!!!
 4) 2 Memory Slots supporting at least 4gb
 5) SATA3 Support – so that thru-put of the next-gen SSD can be maximized/utilized
 6) Matte FinishWell, I think I am day-dreaming at the moment… 🙂 March 11, 2010 at 7:15 am #211481__spc__ MemberHmmm, this thread annoys me! For a few £pounds more, go buy a laptop if you want all these weight-increasing, power-consumption increasing, heat-generating features! Leave my light-weight, nippy, cool & quiet-running 10.1inch screened Sammy netbook alone! March 11, 2010 at 9:20 am #211473Bismarck Member[quote1268299154=__spc__]

 You’re in the NC20 forum, the NC20 comes with a 12.1in screen.
http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/pc-peripherals/notebook-pc/mini-notebook/NP-NC20-KA01AU/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detailAlso unlike the other Samsung netbooks the NC20 has a Via Nano processor and Via Chrome9 graphics chipset.
