I’ve managed to majorly crack the lcd on my NC10 (quite spectacularly I might add, it involved a Ford Fiesta ending up on its roof about two hours ago!) and I can’t see a bloody thing.
Is there any way I can force it to start outputting to an external monitor? At worst, could someone tell me the key combination to get it to output externally once logged on, i.e. press F4 to bring up the external output programme and then..?
Finally, does anyone know if it’s gonna be cost effective to repair or is it now pretty much a write off… ike my car 🙁
Once logged in you should be able to press Fn + F4 (maybe a couple of times), which should switch the output to the external display.

Twice should do the trick. Glad it was the netbook and not you that took the hit.
While somewhat off topic, you should keep in mind that many credit card companies offer 90 day accidental damage/theft protection. So if you purchased your NC10 with a major credit card, you may be able to have your credit card company get it fixed, or reimburse you for a new NC10.
A new screen is about 80 quid and they are self installable… check Ebay
Woah Malk, glad you’re in one piece, that sounds awful (the car on roof, not the cracked nc10 (although I guess that sucks)).
Thanks for the replies and the nice words. I’ve got it running now through a monitor and at least the main body is working fine. I’ll have a look into a new screen and let you know how I get on.
Can you claim the cost of the new screen for your Sammy as part of the claim for the car….or under your house insurance?
Just a thought. Most importantly – you’re not hurt too 🙂
