MemberI have just bought an N110 in great condition off ebay. I would like to do a complete restore using Recovery Solution III so I can start from scratch. In the Complete Restore section there is a file called ‘Computer Initial Status’ dated December 2009. If I restore using that file, does it re-install all the drivers etc.
Will I cause myself any problems doing a complete restore?

ParticipantPenster – Press [F4] at boot and you will enter the SRS. If you carry out a Full Recovery it will set the machine C: drive back to the initial status which is the position just after the machine was set up when new. The OS and all drivers will be re-installed and be aware that all data on the C: drive will be lost in the process (as you want). The only downside if there is one is that you will need to install a lot of Windows updates to catch up with the current updates. ie all those issued since December 2009 and I would advise installing them progressively in small batches over a period of several days with reboots between batches. I say that because several users have experienced issues when installing a large amount of updates in one go.
Another thing to be aware of is Windows update also offers updated drivers so I set the updates to advise and not install updates in the options so I can select only those updates that are needed since upgrading drivers on a stable machine is pointless IMO and can lead to unnecessary problems.
‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ 🙂Hope this helps

MemberThat is really helpful. How do you set Windows updates to advise rather than install. Is there a tick box somewhere?
Also, did the N110 XP version come with installation discs since I did not receive any with my N110?May 9, 2011 at 11:21 pm #218923jeepers01

Also, did the N110 XP version come with installation discs since I did not receive any with my N110?Go to Control Panel > Automatic Updates
Choose “Notify me before downloading any updates, and notify me again when they are ready to install“When Windows finds updates that apply to your computer, an icon appears in the notification area with a message that updates are ready to be downloaded. After you click the icon (or the message), you can select the specific updates that you want downloaded. Windows then downloads the selected updates in the background. When the download is complete, the icon appears in the notification area again, this time to notify you that updates for your computer are ready to be installed. You can then select the specific updates that you want installed on your computer.
The NC10 definately came with a Recovery CD and a Drivers CD but I’m not sure if the N110 did as Samsung stopped issuing them on later models claiming that the information is contained in the Recovery Partition on the hdd accessible from SRS and drivers are available from the Samsung download site.
Hope this helps
