July 2, 2009 at 1:47 pm #162856roythomas MemberHi All, As the NC10 doesn’t, obviously, have an internal optical drive and as I won’t be bothering to buy a USB external version (perhaps I should?) I wondered if there is still any (hopefully free) software out there that would allow relatively old games to have their CDs made into image files that could be stored on the NC10’s hard disc and run from there? I can easily transfer or run CDs over my network but the CD image solution would be an easier way to do it. Any help would be appreciated? Thanks, Roy July 2, 2009 at 2:11 pm #195324Bra1nSOFT MemberHi there, I have found this tool, to create isos from cd (depending on your windows version it may make dvd image too) and this tool is free. Since you need to make images from old games, so most of them will be cd format and it should work pretty well. I haven’t tryed this out. Here is the link for the software Or another choise, you can download trial version of Alcohol 120% and make images, since it has some period of free trial you won’t have to pay. I tryed alcohol and it performed well for me. July 2, 2009 at 3:36 pm #195321roythomas MemberThanks for the reply – but I’m not sure that the solutions you suggest would work in my case – or am I misunderstanding something? These programs create an ISO file but I think I need a prog that will create an image of a CD (game etc) and then play it though XP as an accessible drive letter in My Computer etc. so that an installed game would be able to access the image as a drive letter. Please advise. Thanks again.
RoyJuly 2, 2009 at 3:46 pm #195318Dom01 MemberI would look for a fixed exe for the games you have! ISOs take up a lot of HD space! Many older games now have patches to remove teh CD prtection legitimatly such as Starcraft July 2, 2009 at 3:50 pm #195323surboy MemberI think I know what roythomas means and I am looking for exactly the same solution. I have installed Flight Simulator 2004 on my NC10 but to start it you have have disc 4 of the software in the CD drive so I always have to have my portable CD unit around which is a pain. Does anyone know whether there is a solution to this problem? Cheers July 2, 2009 at 3:52 pm #195317jez MemberThis is mentioned in the [Wiki]Samsung NC10 FAQ[/Wiki]. As said above, some publishers have released legitimate patches that allow games to be used without CDs so it is always worth trying them. This site does not condone or support the use of “cracked” versions so if this is something you want please check out Google (which doesn’t seem to care what it links to ;)!). Be cautious, you never know what might be hiding in the exe… A further suggestion is to use Steam. Some games can be registered on there with your existing CD key. Or often old games can be bought for next to nothing. I would definitely recommend Steam as it allows you to play your games anywhere, it is easy to buy stuff, their sales often give great value and it all “just works”. Not having a Built in or USB CD drive – I’d never get any work done in Office (Yes I have the Original and legal CD!)
