MemberHello, not been on here for a while.
I’ve been away from my Sammy for about 3 months and in the last week I’ve noticed something strange. When I open up my C partition I can see and access everything, but when I open the D partition I get a brief view of my icons and then they all disappear, not to return. I have to use task manager to shut down the my computer window. I’ve tried rebooting and rebooting again but the issue won’t go away. I’ve also done a basic repair to windows through the F4 recovery option on boot up. This is driving me nuts as I can’t access any of my data on the drive partition. Can anyone help me please?
Thanks in advance…June 11, 2010 at 6:25 am #214015blazer
Membertry a chkdsk on your d:
“chkdsk d:” through cmdJune 11, 2010 at 5:22 pm #214012tonytb
MemberHi Cassini,
It might be worth trying a System Restore to an earlier point in time when it was still working, if the chkdsk shows no errors.

MemberI’ve ran a system repair but still have the problem. Might run a restore instead. The chkdsk d: came back with errors. Its advising running chkdsk /f but so far problem remains. Anything else in the mean time?

MemberThe only other thing I can think of might be to d/l a different file explorer, such as Q-Dir or similar, to see if you can access files. Then back up whatever you can to an external device.

ParticipantCassini – You could also try running Ubuntu (Netbook Remix) from a USB stick and back up you files on the D: drive if they are accessible.
I would be tempted to try that before fixing the errors with checkdisk.
btw: The repair option from the [F4] Recovery option will only affect the C: drive and not the D: drive.
Hope this helps

MemberI’ve performed the system repair to no avail. So I performed a
chkdsk /f on start up. Funnily enough didn’t initially solve my problem but since I’ve performed it I’ve restarted the sytem a few times and it now seems like everything is there. What I might do now, seeing as I removed all the data on the D partition to a remote drive, is perform a full system recovery as I did a back up just before I left for my travels 3 months ago. Cheers guys for all the responses annd help. Will update should thing progress or get any worse when I do the restore. Thanks again…June 17, 2010 at 7:54 pm #214011Cassini
MemberAll is good. I’ve actually done nothing else and it seems to have sorted itself out. Cheers again guys.

MemberOh, ‘ve this problem for a long time, too. The system’ve asked me to Check disk many times, when i finished that, any problem was solved. Do i have to re-install the system, guys?
