MemberIve installed windows 7 on my nc10 and havnt really had a problem with it so far. Ive gone straight from XP.
I dont know if its me but im finding it slower than before?! I expected it to be quicker but i think the boot up & shut down are slow including the opening of programs etc. I did a bit of reading reviews before i took the leap and they were all positive saying it was quicker.Just wondering if anyone has installed win 7 and how they are finding it.

Memberwhiterose, did you scroll down to the Netbook Operating Thread section on this forum site. There’s a section devoted to Windows 7 and the Samsung netbooks. Good luck.

MemberHi Whiterose
I put Win 7 Pro on my NC10 when I gat it the other day. I too found it slow at first, so I deleted the Windows.old file which was several GB in size and then defragged the system.
Now it is booting up really quickly:)

MemberMine is fairly slow to startup, but only really on boot time. Once the desktop has fully loaded everything is reasonably snappy, but i too expected the startup to be quicker. I have tweaked the startup items as well but it is about the same (about 2 minutes until i can actually do anything properly)

Member2 minutes to Boot up, matches mine…. 3 minutes to close down (obviously) 5 mins to Restart. What happened to the FAST windows we were promised?? Has anyone else come across “Sticky” icons? When I open a program (intermittently) after closing the program and trying to start a different program; the ORIGINAL program starts again ! last time I saw this problem was Win 95!!

Memberstrider..
Where would i find the windows old file to delete it?
When i installed win7 inoticed that i didnt have to do a format before so im wondering if traces of xp are still on the system? When it came to the option of where to install win 7, i had 3 partition choices and chose one of the larger partition drives. Im guessing this might be my problem?November 9, 2009 at 9:30 am #205367phaze
MemberI question the economy of a (legal) upgrade to windows 7 given that it performs the same as or only marginally better than XP on all tasks that you would use an NC10 for. The advantage of windows 7 only really kicks in on high end hardware.

MemberI have been running dual boot with xp for about a week now and I think it’s worth getting W7. In terms of performance I find it just a bit slower than xp (1GB ram) but I really like the way it works and looks. It is just more comfortable to work with W7 but since the battery life seems to be shorter I will keep the xp for the unplugged tasks.

Memberi’ve been running w7 ult. for a couple weeks now.. i haven’t had any issues, up until lately, when it doesn’t want to restore from sleep very well. CPU maxes out at 100% and i end up restarting it most of the time. which if fine because my boot time is very quick. but sleep mode doesn’t seem to play nicely. I am tempted to backup everything (again) and do a clean install of w7 home prem or even win7 starter edition. i’d lose some (or alot) of the functionality of ultimate but i hope some of the performance slowness would be resolved. worst case scenario the downgrade doesn’t do anything and i put ult back on it.

When you install an upgrade version of Win 7 it creates a windows.old file in the C drive. You are wise to delete it as it takes quite a lot of space.

MemberWell ive deleted the windows.old file which i managed to find quite easily! It took 2 hours for me to delete too!
Im not noticing anymore ‘quickness’ though. Everything just seems to take ages to do or load up. As far as im aware ive not got hardly any programs running and i always disable everything i dont need like virus checkers etc. I just cant believe how slow it is, evensomething so simple as writing a message is slow to ‘type’ on the screen.
I like win7, im just not impressed that it isnt living upto my expectations.November 14, 2009 at 1:51 am #205368S4m5ung
MemberI’ve been dual booting xp/7 for a month now. 7 is at least twice as fast a xp in all aspects it boots up to ready desktop from cold in 30-40secs as apposed to a minute and a bit for xp.

MemberHi Whiterose
I have noticed that Win7 is very slow to ‘delete’ files and send them to the recycle bin. If you hold down the shift key when you press delete, it bypasses the recycle bin and is way faster.
Have you defragged the system since you deleted the Windows.old file?? You may find that things speed up a bit.

MemberHi Whiterose,
shame about the issues you are having, i”ve been using 7 on the n120 for a few weeks now, and all seems pretty much the same speediness as xp, if not a little faster in some things. Sounds like an issue with your particular install rather than win7, tbh.
(mine is a dual boot with xp, so essentially a clean install rather than update of the existing xp install)

MemberHi, Yes ive de-fragged the system although this was done through my antivirus so i will do it through the computer itslf at somepoint tonight/tommorow.
How could i have a problem with the install itself? I thought it was a bit funny how it installed though as im only used to XP and when that is installed you have to format first and it takes a while to install it. With win 7 i didnt have to do any format (after i spent a few hours backing everything up too!) and it didnt take very long to install at all. Is this how it does install or does that not sound right? I dont particularly fancy re-installing win 7 straight on the machine again, i would much rather do a format but dont know how! -
