MemberHi all,
New to the site but have been reading it thoroughly to help me decide which netbook to get for my birthday present and finally jumped in this weekend.
I have a lovely brand new n220, running win 7 starter and have an upgrade to win 7 pro using an academic licence. I have a key to use, which doesn’t work with anytime upgrade unfortunately, and needs a clean install to get it set up.
Successfully installed but having done this my screen resolution gets set to 800 x 600 and I have no way to change it. It leaves the screen blurry, squashed and hard to read.
I have tried to reinstall the graphics drivers, but no joy. I keep getting a window popping up stating: Error. The computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit.
I have tried Easy Resolution Manager, this does not solve the problem, it merely tells me: Easy Resolution Manager only supports the resolution change of the LCD panel of the notebook computer and not the resolution change of an external display device connected to the notebook computer.
Samsung Support centre tells me the drivers have not been installed, but trying to fix this redirects to the website.
So I have given up and recovered to the original set up with Win 7 starter. I would like to avoid having to pay for the upgrade if I can, but wanted to see if there was anything I can do about it first.
Can anyone help me?

MemberThanks for the reply, I downloaded the (x64) version, having the choice of this or the (x86) version.
I had assumed that the one I had would be 32 bit one, and as such have this driver – ask a stupid question though could it be the 64 bit W7 i have and the 32 bit driver is causing the issue?
And what else do I need to worry about…….?

Memberin computer properties you easily determine sytem version (32/64) download right version (exe file not zip, zip is for developers) and run it restart, resulution could be set astomamatgicaly to native if not set it manually

MemberSorted at last.
I had downloaded the 64 bit version without knowing that the driver I had was for the 32 bit one.
Followed your help to the intel website and downloaded the 64 bit driver.
It all works now and I can now enjoy the netbook like I thought I would!

MemberNow sure what you need, but I am happy enough with starter now on my N220 I have a background changing programme that also does a slide show!
I’m a teacher at uni so can get windows 7 ultimate but am thinking I won’t bother unless I come across some severely limiting factors in the future.
Can you tell me if your ready boost works and what card you use it with. Mine doesn’t work with a class 6 transcend!

MemberHI there mindtraveller,
I have done a clean install of W7 Pro, so have not got any of the samsung utilities loaded up. And I haven’t used ready boost!
It has made things easier getting rid of starter W7 though, I have a lot more options – but given the speed of the N220 some of them aren’t very quick – I’ve given Windows Media Centre a go but it was slowwwwwwwww. Using Homegroup is great though – I’ve always had problems networking my desktop with anything else in the house no matter what I’ve tried. This works great though.
I did have some problems – originally named my net book the same as the desktop which are both W7 Pro and they couldn’t find each other at all. Then I changed the name of my net book and bingo it worked like a dream. Great for accessing photos and music in particular.
I have upgraded to 2gb RAM and this has improved the netbook greatly – but I will only really be using it for writing and surfing so it won’t need to be challenged too hard.
Hope this helps.
