No problems here although like others I had to run the flash program twice. It appears the first flash updated the Micom and the second flash updated the BIOS. My function keys are working just fine using either XP or Vista.[/quote1230069765]
Same here, although I don’t have Vista installed. I am getting used to doing it twice its not the first time, although you would think the installation instructions would indicate the need to do so.
WilliamYZFMemberThats so wrong, especially in current imes.
My girlfriend works for a large debt collection firm. Despite the Statute of Limitations on a debt (5 years), if they phone you after that date and you acknowledge the debt the clock on that debt starts ticking again.
If you are clued up and spout the correct sections of the Statute down the phone at them they have no alternative but to write off the debt and then they bother you no more.
The Company buys bad debts off banks and building societies for peanuts and obviously make their money from getting people to pay off some, or all of that bought debt. They make millions and with the current state of the economy they are gearing up for repossessions by taking on mortgage oriented personnel.
My girlfriend works in the Quality assurance dept which monitors that the actual collectors on the phone work within the law and she also handles complaints..
December 23, 2008 at 9:30 pm in reply to: Tannoy Mercury Custom F4 Floorstanding Speakers – Giveaway UK Price! #175919WilliamYZFMemberI guess there are even less AV enthusiasts than motorcycle owners! Unless they just rushed off to Richer Sounds with replying!!
As a brief update they surpassed my expectations, there are two more large speakers at the rear out of picture!
The AV Receiver is a Sony STR-DA1200ES 7.1 – 100 watts per channel, although I am am using 5.1.
7.1 seems a little unnecessary as just about all film soundtracks are only encoded in Dolby 5.1.I have used the two unused rear channels to Biamp the front two speakers, an option available in the receiver menu.
WilliamYZFMemberIMHO opinion most adults who get themselves into debt have noone else to blame other than themselves BUT for the last few years banks and building societies have gone out of their way to entice people into debt. Offers of pre approved credit cards in the post, interest free periods, balance transfers and amazing amounts available for mortgages compared to annual income.
People are only human and these offers were almost too good to be true and now the banks, building societiies and the people affected are all paying for it.
Mortages are now harder to find at a good price and for me personally I get no mail offering me pre approved credit cards.
I am currently in the position of having no mortgage or debt and a a large brand new house. However, I also have no income so in these bleak times I will soon to be reentering the job market, albeit in a part time capacity. My previous salary (4 years ago) was was around £40K net, yet to fit in with my children (the reason I left my job), who previously lived with my exwife I envisage working in a supermarket or the local B&Q. Neither of whom are recruiting at the moment!

I went to the Samsung download site for the Sammy and found several driver updates, some of which I didn’t need. However, I don’t know if I need the chipset driver update. Please excuse my ignorance, but can someone tell me where I would find that driver info? I assume it is in Device Manager but don’t know where in there I would find it. Also, do you recommend to update the chipset? Are there any current problems or issues with the Sammy that this update would be applied to?I would appreciate any help/information/advice.
Thanks in advance.
[/quote1230064806]
I installed it and all the others in the belief that it must have been updated for a reason, usually for the better.
I am a glutton for “if its a newer version it must be better” but of course there are others who are more cautious with a belief that “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it”.
Its an Intel chipset so its probably just a minor Intel update available from the Samsung site.

Could be a faulty Bluetooth installation. I’m guessing it’s not hardware based otherwise I would expect it to be giving you more issues than it’s worth. A wild stab would be that the software has a registry fault / corruption somewhere that is preventing it allocating a valid license key for it to transmit / receive on.Have you modded anything on it? Replaced anything hardware wise? What else do you have plugged in to the Sammy? The reason I ask is XP always had a fondness of allocating too many items to a single IRQ causing them to collide.
If your still running XP try this:
1/ Right click on my computer
2/ Select Properties
3/ Select Hardware
4/ Select Device Manager
5/ Once device manager is open you should see a expandable list of bluetooth devices (not sure on wording)
6/ Delete using the ‘Delete’ key. If Windows queries you select ‘yes, you are sure’.
7/ Reboot the netbook.
8/ Once Windows kicks in it should hopefully reinstall the Bluetooth drivers / software that originally existed with Samsungs installation. This should resolve the issue.
[/quote1230064031]Thanks I tried all that before doing a full recovery in desparation.
I did wonder if it was originally caused by downloading and installing the USA Bluetooth update.
Apart from 2Gb RAM my NC10 was as out of the box especially after the recovery.
The only related software installed after recovery, and after getting the infernal message again, is the Samsung phone PC Studio.
On a brighter note after the reappearance of the message I installed the UK update and fingers crossed have not seen the message again yet.
I am not entirely convinced its gone because I went days without getting a message and then all of a sudden it would occur and keep reoccuring, each time turning Bluetooth off.

I can now tell you that I have connected the fan again. The ‘puter just gets too hot. And from what I’ve noticed the fan doesn’t draw very much power at all.Well – I’ve tried it and from experience I can not recommend disconnecting the fan 😉
[/quote1229899097]The fan in my Vaio TR5MP stopped working and it bricked itself within minutes. I will keep my fan, its the achilles heel of most laptops/netbooks IMHO.

After hearing about the mess that is GTA 4 on pc I am regrettably going to join the dark side and get an XBOX 360 (sigh) I hardly touch my desktop now I have my NC10
[/quote1229554060]I don’t think you will regret it, although I bought the 360 GTA4 it didn’t really float my boat. I must be a COD fan as I have completed all of them. I tried online but its too savage and I am usually the victim!
Even if were possible I cannot imagine playing these games on a small screen and you need 5.1 to work out where they are coming from.

I am getting braver, in one of my first posts I suggested a console for playing games and I was called a troll.Netbooks are not intended to be a gaming platform. I remember when a universal upgradeable slot for graphics cards on laptops was talked about but unsure if it ever happened.
Call of Duty WAW is awesome on the 360, unfortunately I have now finished it.
[/quote1229552646]I don’t understand why anyone would bash you or call you a troll – I also can’t imagine why anyone would buy a netbook with the initial thought of being able to play modern games (newer than ’04.) It’s what I do – I can run games like Total Annihilation, Red Alert 2, System Shock 2, older games from GOG. But my primary gaming is now on my 360.
[/quote1229553071]Thanks, I gave up gaming on PC’s many years ago – It was costing too much money every time a new game came out.
I have a 360, a good a/v receiver, great 5.1 speakers and a 46″ HDTV, THATS GAMING! The netbook for me is cheap & is for internet and Office, thats about it.
I have to say a question about upgrading the graphics card on an NC10 is almost amusing. Apologies in advance.
WilliamYZFMember[quote1229552000=TheMadHatter]
So has anyone been able to overclock the NC10? I’m debating between the NC10 and a WIND. I’m leaning to the NC10, but lack of overclocking is a deal killer.
[/quote1229552000]Is overclockability really a deal clincher? I overclocked my desktop on a whim but really couldn’t detect a real world benefit just more CPU heat.

Each to their own but IMHO a 360, big screen, with a decent 5.1 Dolby setup is what you should get for games, not a netbook
WilliamYZFMemberCarefully drill the head off then replace screw or live with 1Gb.
If you are up for it, lever and pry up the opposite end with the location lug, then swivel cover with screw still attached, but don’t overlook the two locating lugs, one on each side of the RAM cover.
If it were me I’d drill or live with 1Gb.
Would a real geek wield a screwdriver or pay someone else?
I am wondering if the screwdriver you used was too tiny or not tiny enough. my screw was tight but undid OK with the right screwdriver.

Excellent! so there are some out there blotch-free. That’s all I want![/quote1229470062]
Yep I looked at the link and I do not have it.
WilliamYZFMemberWell I downloaded the software , ran the tests and honestly can’t see anything wrong. Perhaps its my eyesight, maybe its just not there, but mine seems fine.

Looks like they canceled my order.
Won’t be doing my business with them in the future. 🙂
[/quote1229377457]Doesn’t bode well for my Mon AM order then!
Thanks for the original post & link though. I have never heard of them before and they won’t be getting any more orders off me if they cancel.I purposely delayed my order so that those who wanted them for themselves or Xmas pressies got their orders in. I only wanted them to sell on via Ebay.
I even prepared my Ebay listing today!
