[quote1258841568=TeutonJon78]11CA also fixes brightness control in Linux as well.
[/quote1258841568]That’s interesting, if a little unexpected, thanks for letting us know 🙂[/quote1261071967]
I believe that they fixed the DPMS control, which is what Linux (and probably Win7) use for the backlight. Anyway, it works perfect in Linux now.
TeutonJon78ParticipantI don’t think the fan stays on all the time. I believe there is also an option in the BIOS now to control the fan settings.

TeutonJon78ParticipantHoly cow…Synaptics released official drivers for a change. New version is 14.0.3. The previous official version was 10.x. The latest one from Samsung is 11.x. Yay new version.
The drivers also supports XP/Vista/7 32/64 bit.

Bluetooth – Broadcom 2045: My original was 5.1.0.5800; when I used 5.5.0.7000, I ended up with version 5.5.0.6500; when I used 5.5.0.7800, I ended up with 5.5.0.7600. Why the differences?
[/quote1253941653]I’ve noticed this as well, that the actual version doesn’t necessarily match the installer version. my guess would be that is just means the whole package advanced forward, but the exact driver for the NC10 bluetooth card isn’t the newest in the package. The software update from Broadcom should always move to the newest version for the specific card that’s there.

New bluetooth 5.5…… from Samsung site comes with installer that does the job.Drivermax finds an update to the WLAN driver that won’t install. Samsung update (dreadful piece of software) also found an update for this – but refused to do anything with it – then forgot about it.
[/quote1253121552]That was posted awhile ago. THey have 5.5.7000 on the Samsung site. direct from Broadcom is 5.5.7800.
TeutonJon78Participantall sorts of new drivers available. One big one is that intel released some new chipset drivers for XP. Its the first chipset release for their older hardware in over a year.
TeutonJon78ParticipantHmm…I just noticed something odd. If you look at the other netbooks drivers/software pages, there are a lot of different versions available. For example, one netbook will have an updated WLAN (NC10), but the NC110 won’t have it. And it will be opposite for the camera drivers and such. It like they are only updating one specific model at a time even though they share hardware components.
Also, that is even true with the Samsung Utilities. Super strange. There are different versions all over the place for the different models.
Has anyone tried the different versions out?
TeutonJon78Participantupdated with some new versions
TeutonJon78ParticipantI used the latest driver direct from Broadcom, and it works fine. I think it’s 5.1.0.7200 or something like that.
TeutonJon78ParticipantTheoretically, it is possible to downgrade the BIOS. There is no technical barrier to it.
However, the Samsung flashing software they provide with the BIOS image embedded does not permit downgrading. It does a version check and if the BIOS is newer, won’t do any flashing. Most companies provide some sort of command line parameter or option that lets you force a flash regardless of check. (Actually, most companies just provide a straight BIOS image that you can flash at will).
When the whole 05CA removal was going on, I did contact Samsung support to say that they should be able to downgrade and the tech agreed with me and said he would forward the request to the actual engineers. Now, will that accomplish anything? I have my doubts since that seems to be how Samsung operates with its firmware across it’s whole product line.
Based on the links provided, it seems that there is a way to strip out the flash image provided and use another utility to do, but I doubt Samsung woudl consider that a warranty worth repair and it has a chance of bricking the device. The NC10 doesn’t have BIOS recovery type hardware built in like many high end motherboards do now.

latest for the ar5007eg appears to be 7.6.1.244. Don’t know if this is official, but it works.http://www.atheros.cz/download.php?atheros=AR5007EG&system=1
[/quote1242173104]Those drivers are non-official.
TeutonJon78Participant[quote1240504568=KiNeL]
I don’t know how you come to the conclusion “You’ve obviously never checked for firmware updates for a motherboard before !”
[/quote1240504568]Well, it was a brash assumption. But there are always updates to firmware for things like this. Also remember that the NC10 is a new class of device with a new processor and a new spin of the chipset (945GSE). Plus, as people try more and more memory modules, that may have to release updates to the firmware to account for setting up the timings right. Usually, firmware updates address CPU and memory compatibility issues.
TeutonJon78Participant[quote1240431506=KiNeL]
I agree that updates are not written for fun and it does surprise me a bit that someone at Samsung is still scribbling away at the BIOS for what is a mature stable product.Can I put it another way then, has anyone actually gained anything ‘compelling, genuinely necessary, or otherwise worth while’ from any of the various iterations ?
[/quote1240431506]You’ve obviously never checked for firmware updates for a motherboard before. Updates for those (and usually routers) come out for years after the products are released.
And Samsung fixed some memory performance issues in the 07CA if you read me earlier post.
TeutonJon78ParticipantIn my chat I also tried to get a reason why 05CA was pulled. Still no answer. The response was, that was pulled so the new one could be posted. Gee..what about why it went BACK to 04CA in the first place.
Anyway, I updated to 07CA after the chat, and every thing was working fine with me.
