Nope currently Samsung netbooks can only take upto 2GB of RAM
April 25, 2011 at 7:23 am in reply to: Which Samsung apps that come pre-installed on the N145 are necessary? #218788NobbyNobbsMemberThe battery life extender is good as it should minimize wear when the battery is full. Whether it just wears out the cell at the 80% mark is up for debate.
NobbyNobbsMemberLink now dead:(
April 25, 2011 at 7:17 am in reply to: Win 7 Ultimate severely slow on N145, suggestions to speed it up? #218794NobbyNobbsMemberHave got all of the correct drivers installed, as I had an N145 with Win 7 Pro and 1 Gb RAM and it was very nippy?

Nobby, Any thoughts on the issue I mentioned about the aspect of sales details quoting a 6 cell battery but the detection software showing it as only a 3 cell ?
Sandy SamHi Sam
To be honest I don’t really know enough about the number of cells in a battery. Do more cells automatically equate to a longer battery life or is it the capacity of the cells? For example, could you get a 6 cell battery that produces 4400mAh as well as a 3 cell battery that produces 4400mAh??
The best I can offer is checking the mAh on the bottom of the battery, as that gives you the true capacity.
Sorry I can’t provide a definitive answer.

NobbyNobbsMemberSorry to join the party late:)
The problem with batteries is that their quoted usage times are always based on Power Saver mode being used, wifi / bluetooth turned off etc and nothing else running. It is a bit of a con really as no-one uses a laptop like that, but it is an industry standard way of doing things.
I bought an 5900 mAh battery for an N150 and it shows 100% capacity and 0% wear and most I can drag out of it is 9.5 hours.
I have yet to see any machine that will give over 10 hours of ‘normal’ usage when running on batteries.

NobbyNobbsMemberSorry, but I have to contradict Jeepers.
Unlike Windows XP which would store the initial setup, including the user name etc; Windows 7 initial setup is different. All it does on first installation is install from the hidden partition and then set the partition size for the C and D drive.
If you use the SRS 5 initial installation recovery you will go through the same setup routine you did the first time, including putting in a new user name and choosing the langause. The only thing that you cant do is set the partition sizes again.
One of the reasons for the change in Windows 7 was that Samsung got lots of complaints as once a Win XP machine was set up for the first time, the user name was stored permanently on the hidden partition.

NobbyNobbsMemberThe latest drivers for the dual core N150P are on the Samsung Website, you just have to enter the entire product code to find them:
Hope this helps you:)

NobbyNobbsMemberI believe it is the limit of the motherboard.
NobbyNobbsMemberHi Barty
Glad you like the N150 you have purchased. I have just bought a 2GB stick of RAM and does make a noticeable improvement in speed and stability.
Regarding you comment “…upgraded to Windows 7 – HP. There are links to registration keys and they work…”, I would avoid making others that refer to illegal upgrades because you never know who reads these posts and we don’t want the site getting into trouble.
SRS is on the machine. If you click on the Realtek audio manager in the task bar, it is on the second tab.
Cheers

NobbyNobbsMemberI have just had to fix the w key after it popped off.
There are two little white clips that are actually quite sturdy, I had to put them onto the key first and the try to clip it back onto the keyboard.
I took me half an hour of fiddling, but it eventually it popped back in. Don’t put too much pressure on it though.

NobbyNobbsMemberReplacing the N150 keyboard is a very simple task and is much easier than fiddling around trying to force a key back onto the board itself.
Let me know if you want instructions as I have recently replaced a keyboard myself.

NobbyNobbsMemberHi
The problem with Samsung is that they do not say what the bios updates do. I have always used the updates and have not experienced any problems – however you will no-doubt hear from people who have had issues.

NobbyNobbsMemberWhat GSB1 stated is correct. The N150 Plus (N450 Processor) uses DDR2 and the N150 Plus (N550 Dual Core Processor) uses DDR3.
Nobby
NobbyNobbsMemberWell, I bit the bullet and bought one from Ebuyer.
Ordered at 9pm on Thursday and it arrived at 9.30am on Friday. Seems quite a lot quicker than the N145 I have – even with 1GB of RAM. Talking of RAM, it is DDR3, so my 2GB DDR2 stick won’t fit – grr.
Overall, my Windows Experience Index score is 2.9
CPU – 3.1
Memory – 4.5
Graphics – 2.9
Gaming Graphics – 3.0
Hard Disk – 5.7Well worth the money.
Cheers Nobby
