After a comedy of errors i’ve just received a replacement. The replacement was ordered but I was charged again, they realised and cancelled the order and also refunded my card, re-ordered with no charge, finally arrived and now works fine.
The power supply now gets warm but the battery doesn’t which surprised me but charging ok so no problem.

kevin54MemberWilliamYZF. I totally agree but tried not to let my scepticism show. However if it’s on this lads diagnostics screen then it must have some pedigree as a solution. When I get home I’ll have a go and let all know the result. I personally doubt it’s the battery more likely the charge control circuitry so I’m sure I’ll be getting a replacement from Dixons online in a couple of days. Since I purchased it on free delivery (24th Nov) the price has increased by £22 and now today has dropped with the vat decrease but it’s still £14 more than I paid plus £4.99 delivery. No further comment required !!!
