Photoshop Elements 5 totally refuses to install because of the screen resolution, so you were lucky with CS3!
[/quote1227189259]It’s interesting that you say that because I had zero problems running and installing Photoshop Elements 7. :/
ashesfallMemberExcellent suggestions thank you, keep them coming 🙂

Thanks! I have bought exactly the same one as Ashesfall. I just need to wait for my netbook to arrive now!!
[/quote1227089786]Nice one! I should contact Ebuyer and demand commision hehe. When is yours due to arrive?

Well just tweaked a few settings and as you can see in the lasdt pc of the set i have it sync at 300mbps just by tweaking a setting in the intel driver. To give an idea of realworld performance as figures mean nothing. I have just streamed from my main pc a high def 720p avc file hd video file with 5.1 audio to powerdvd 8 on the nc10 via the belkin router. the device played the file without dropping a single frame and no delayed start. In comparison i could not stream the same file from the same pc to a ps3 running tversity without a delayed start (ps3 wireless g only)
very impressive espcially how easy it decoded the file
[/quote1227088769]That’s quite impressive. Initially I thought I was going to be stuck moving files to the NC10 with USB sticks but then I discovered that I could easily network it with the “Mothership” It’s fairly quick but not nearly 300mbps. Still I’d be too chicken to pop the case 🙂
ashesfallMemberI’m taking a wait and see approach and sticking with XP. Good point Jez, unless it brings something really revoultionary to the table besides more eye candy then what is the point really? I don’t forsee XP going away anytime soon…
ashesfallMemberAnyone else find it peculiar that Ebuyer has removed all references to the Blue one from their site… they don’t even have it for pre-order :/
November 19, 2008 at 9:41 am in reply to: Samsung NC-10 Review Roundup (12 reviews and growing!) #169690ashesfallMemberI just found another great review from a large publication, PC Advisor 🙂 Jez feel free to move this post to General Discussion if you like, it feels kind of lonely in the news section 🙂
ashesfallMemberThat’s a good point. Honestly if they could have squeeked out maybe 4-5 hours of battery life I would be posting on a very different forum right now 🙂
ashesfallMemberIn terms of a Civ type game Civ II Civ III and Alpha Centaurii should play well barring any unsupported resolution issues, I wouldn’t reccomend trying Civ 4 as I have trouble running that on my XPS Dell :/ Sim City 3000 should play fine and is I think the truest to the series along with 2000 but that might be a bit too old school for some. I will try Alpha and Sim City 3000 sometime this week or possibly on the weekend.

I’m planning on upgrading my ram to a 2GB 800Mhz SODIMM. I know there won’t be much difference between 533, 677 and 800Mhz speeds, but as they’re all within a few euro in price of each other, I may as well get the highest speed supported. What have people upgraded to themselves i.e. manufacturer, speed etc?
[/quote1227084879]Although the 800Mhz chip should work, I think the fastest the chipset can support is 667Mhz anyway so your 800Mhz chip would clock down to 667Mhz. Unless you are planning on using the SODIMM later in a faster notebook, it may be false economy to get it.
[/quote1227085714]That’s interesting and it would be nice to get a definitive answer on this but I’m happy with my 667 stick and I don’t want to have to pry off that bloody ram cover again if I can possibly avoid it 🙂
November 18, 2008 at 12:39 pm in reply to: NC-10 Screen for web Browsing – Sideways Scrolling Required? #169707ashesfallMemberI’m 98% sure it does work but can’t test at the moment. Another feature you have with the NC10 is to pinch in and pinch out with 2 fingers on the touchpad, like you would on an Iphone and that zooms in and out of websites and documents as well.
ashesfallMemberThe Acer Aspire One is a machine that I took a long hard look at, but in the end, the tipping point for me was the battery life. In the end these are meant to be portable machines and even though I like the size and form factor of the Aspire, the 2 hours of battery life was just not enough for me. The NC10 provides me with so much more versatility with the comfortable keyboard, massive hard drive, camera, built in bluetooth and amazing battery life.
When 6 cell batteries become more common on the Aspire One then it might pose a bit more competition to the NC10 at the moment however I don’t even consider it to be a contest.

I’ve seen some nice ‘general’ accessories that will work with the NC10, but I was mainly asking as it would be nice to see some official accessories that match the look of the NC10, such as a glossy black slim-line DVD drive, or an official, black, robust case etc.
[/quote1226935687]I do see your point I’m just not sure if in Samsung’s case they feel like it makes financial sense build new accessories for the NC10 when they already have black DVD drives that fit in with the style just fine. I guess it all depends on whether Samsung is looking to position this as a high end “fashion” product like Apple or as a budget to mid level product like Dell, HP, Asus etc. My guess is that it’s closer to the latter.
Based on all of the extremely positive reviews, online buzz and word of mouth I think that this is going to be THE Netbook to own for at least the next 6 months so if Samsung decided to make an accessory line it would sell decently at least.
But with the overcrowded Netbook market where new machines are announced every week, I would wait to see how my product is received by the public and how many people buy it before I spend money making a lot of different accessories for it. And I think that this is what Samsung is doing.
What do you think?
ashesfallMemberI have to say I find the clean and basic look and feel of this site very old school and charming which makes it a less intimidating place for people to post. I also think it helps that the operator is not some uber experienced and elitist forum guru but a regular enthusiast like the rest of us.
Saying that though, if this becomes THE NC10 forum on the internet then a few things, like thread subscribes, private messages etc should be implemented but then again there are websites with massive communities with boards even more old school and less user friendly than this one!
