In view of the resource hungriness of most AV programmes, has anyone tried one of these (which are beloved of Jason and the team on The Gadget Show) on a netbook and the Sammy in particular?
The Yoggie does look a good idea and I really like the idea of it being separate from the PC CPU. It’s a bit pricey but I’m am tempted, cheapest I found is £79.99. There’s also the fact it’ll be sticking out the NC10, one day someone will build such a device right into a PC.
If this is what I think it is, a hardware firewall, then I have used it on a previous notebook. Took it off almost immediately, not because of poor performance or impact on resources, but because it had to be in the USB slot at all times for me to use the notebook, whether I was online or not, and that got to be a pain real fast.
Hmmm not used one but the major disadvantage for me would be sticking out of a USB port all the time.
I think i’d rather have a software anti-virus that uses up some of the system resources.
The Yoggie is a full virus checker and firewall etc.
I don’t think it needs to be in to use the PC unless network connected but of course the downsides are:
1) the USB sticking out of the computer
2) it won’t virus scan files on USB drives etc.
There is a card slot version but I don’t think any netbooks have a suitable slot
