MemberNo problems here – the NC10 comes with SP3 as standard anyway. Just be careful with how you do your slipstreaming to ensure you have all you need.

MemberJust upgraded to PRO without any problems. Dowloaded drivers fron Samsung Website
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/download/supportDown.do?group=&type=&subtype=&model_nm=NP-NC10&language=&cate_type=all&dType=D&mType=SW&vType=L&prd_ia_cd=&disp_nm=NC10-14GW
Then just installed fresh PRO to c: (having first reformatted partition c: during install from CD) leaving d: intact and recovery area as well (just in case)
Then installed drivers using their setup files one at a time, mind blowingly simple and a lot better now I have Microsoft Exchange which was the main purpose of upgrading. All Samsung software works as before including FN keys and Samsung recovery III. Makes Sammy even better with no loss in speed etc.December 3, 2008 at 3:24 pm #168414Sideburnt
MemberQuote:(make sure you have a copy of the WLAN or LAN driver saved BEFORE you install XP Pro you will not be able to get online!)erm, with the UK model you get a disk with all the samsung apps on it, including the WLAN driver, is this not so with other models internationally?

Memberi think there are laws in some countries that say they have to supply original installation disks, but not in every country, so they prob. just don’t include them to save a few quid.
bought mine in the uk from dabs.ie (i’m in ireland) and it came with a driver and recovery cd and dvd.
only got it last night and not had much time to play but will most likely be putting tinyxp on tomorrow so i’ll let you know how that goes. i have a couple of options, either usb stick, sdcard or usb dvd drive, so i’ll see what’s what and post afterwards. :o)

MemberDo we have to do anything with Sata to get things working with MultiBoot?
December 16, 2008 at 4:31 pm #168413TeutonJon78
ParticipantI don’t know, but XP install doesn’t need the F6 drivers. Unless your using SATA native mode to ACQ, SATA appears just like PATA to the operating system for the most part. I don’t know the chipset supports those modes, but I doubt it since I think ICH7-M was out before those modes were starting to be more widespread. And the very limited BIOS definitely doesn’t support it.

MemberNevermind, I sorted it.
Also, apparently SP3 doesn’t like being slipstreamed onto my copy of windows xp sp2 🙁
I get a bunch of errors about not being able to find wmerrenu.dll when I do.December 17, 2008 at 4:45 pm #168423Wiggler
Memberi got my sammy today 😀 i’m just in the middle of the copy of the content of a xp pro iso onto a flash drive so i can stick that on. I got my xp pro free from the uni’s MSDN servers

MemberI also upgraded to XP Pro as well by just running XP Pro from a USB drive and selecting “upgrade”. All went well. I was missing the NTFS security on files and folders.

MemberHow long did the upgrade take Jim?

MemberI’d strongly suggest just doing a clean install. I have an ext. case for a hdd that I used to connect a dvd drive to boot from with the xp pro cd when I did the install. All of the sw and drivers can be d/l from samsungs site with no problem, so just do that first. Unless there is some strange configuration that requires a lot of work to redo, a clean install is always best 🙂 I’ve installed xp, vista, server 2008 and now windows 7 (which I’m sticking with for now) and it is really pretty simple…

MemberCan I ask why no one has mentioned a straight upgrade from XP Home to Pro? Surely it’s cheaper and less hassle to to do this without wiping the parions???
December 25, 2008 at 12:21 am #168421hufn
MemberBasically because upgrades are certainly a simple way to go, but in the long run, you have fewer problems with a clean install. If you really can’t take the time to install pro (and in the process you can reinstall only the software you really need, not any extra junk that comes with it) then I will bet you don’t need pro. There are only a few things that pro does that home doesn’t, so if you do not need those features, there’s no point in upgrading,,,

MemberI think the 2 main benefits of having Pro over Home is the ability to become a member of a domain and file permissions.

Memberand is there much benefit to using an Nlited copy of XP Pro vs. a straight OEM install? Seems like you have to fiddle with the drivers either before or after at any rate.
OS size doesn’t bother me with a 160GB HD. But is there a much better difference to boot times or running efficiency? in the sticky thread, Freddy outlines how to strip back the factory samsung install – is there any difference starting from an already stripped back (lited) OS?
