This morning I woke up and checked my Samsung updater as I do most days I’m that bored. I know, it really says a lot about me. Anyway, it came up with this Atheros Wireless update but no matter what I did, it would not click it, so I said never mind that, I’ll go to the Samsung Download center found here:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/download/supportDown.do?model_nm=NP-NC10&mType=DR&vType=L&disp_nm=NP-NC10
and get it from there.
Having downloaded it I was interested to find that it asked if i wanted to install just the driver, or the driver and something called Acu? So I did both being a little adventurous you know. Turns out that Acu which wasn’t at least for me, part of the original NC10 windows experience is Atheros’s answer it would seem, to the INtel Proset Wireless idea.
You can import/export profiles, make them first of course, (I did get them a bit backwards didn’t I?) see the DBM which is something Windows just doesn’t offer, and quite a lot more. It seems to connect a lot faster to my home network and I’ve of course yet to test it outside the home but it looks to be promising.
I’m just not sure why it didn’t ship with a client originally, but I will be performing more tests and ask you all to do so as well, and maybe we can collate our findings.
For a direct link to the wireless driver:

Enjoy.January 23, 2009 at 6:29 pm #181008tikkalaleeMemberI ran into a problem with it. i downloaded installed rebooted. lost my wireless it was gone. it said i had to install it for my eithernet would work correctly, clicked to do that. then it said in had to search the internet for it. i thought oh no. so then i rebooted to go into my bios, and i couldn’t get into it. ok i decided to do restore, i had already saved a restore point. i restored the whole system, because i wasn’t sure what had happened. the restore worked and i got my wifi back. i changed my settings in the update to let my decide if i want to install them, sense this happened. i will not install that again.
January 23, 2009 at 8:13 pm #181013avserviceMemberI installed it without issue.
I think you are right,it did seem like a faster connection and I really like the new signal strength bars and extra info the new utility provides. Thanks

I installed this and wireless went “poof” – disappeared and under hardware (System) wireless card was stating it was bluetooth. One to miss for me.

January 27, 2009 at 4:08 pm #181014AndreMemberI’m really sorry you know. Everyone I’ve told about the client has managed to install it without any trouble whatsoever. In this house there’s two NC10’s and no problems. About 5 other people have had no problem, so even though it isn’t my fault personally, I feel really bad about it. It’s not like I made the update or anything, but I alerted people to the fact.
Hopefully next time I make a post in here it won’t reflect too badly on me and people will actually read what I say, despite all this mess.
Sorry to everyone having problems with the driver though.January 27, 2009 at 6:30 pm #181010tikkalaleeMember[quote1233080870=Andre]

[/quote1233080870]it isn’t your fault it is samsung’s, we trust them when they give us an update it will work, not mess up our sammys the problem is when i call them they sound like they don’t believe me, and that is a little hard to take.

January 28, 2009 at 7:34 pm #181005kentonMemberI tried this driver update, even after the warnings above because I am an expert user
I had no issues and like the Atheros utility however because my I run my router in mixed WPA/WPA2 function to allow XBOX 360 to connect via wireless (it does not support WPA2)
I am afraid my netbook is also running in WPA mode instead of WPA2 because the program does not seperate WPA2 from WPA….
January 28, 2009 at 11:02 pm #181004chris_bMemberI updated to Atheros WLAN driver v7.6.1.210 from Samsung Update Plus last night. It seemed to install without any problems. I hsd to re-enter the WLAN passkey to reconnect – I’m using WPA2. Tonight, although it showed as being connected to the ‘net with good signal strength etc. it was actually off line & would not connect to any websites. A window popped up asking if I wanted to perform a Windows connection repair which I did and this fixed it.
Edit : corrected driver version number (typo!!)Chris B
January 28, 2009 at 11:23 pm #180996FreddyMember7.6.1.160? The latest version is 7.6.1.210 found here
7.6.1.160 was the previous version (which by the way worked fine). New version also works but when installing it you loose your connection but you just have to type in your Wireless password again.
January 29, 2009 at 1:37 am #181012flux76MemberCan anyone provide a copy of the original Atheros driver that would have shipped with the UK version? I think it was 1.0.0.86 – I am having problems since doing the auto update and want to go back because it actually worked for me flawlessly. I have not been able to find a copy on the net.
January 29, 2009 at 5:22 am #181001abandonMemberI’ll try the update.
I did actually run the Samsung updater. It found no updates, except for an updated …. updater program !
I installed the new updater and rebooted, and then all the Samsung features, such as magic keyboard, EDS etc.. had vanished. Only cure was a restore, and then I turned off the updater alltogether.
