MemberHi,
I’m looking to buy a new wireless mouse for my sammy. Now I’m considering 2 models: The Logitech VX Nano and VX470 [or Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 5000].
The actual issue is which of those will drain more power from the computer? The USB or Bluetooth version? And secondly will I be able to use two bluetooth devices at the same time [eg. the mouse and mobile as a modem]?January 30, 2009 at 7:49 pm #181932Alfihar
Participant1) Not sure, I didn’t notice much of a difference between using a VX Nano and an Apple Bluetooth Mighty Mouse.
2) You can use several Bluetooth devices at the same time without a problem, I use several at a time regularly. From what I remember the limit is 7 devices simultaneously.

MemberThanks for your answer… and what’s your opinion about the Apple Mighty Mouse?
I’mean I read reviews where people complained that it has issues with precision and it’s heavy… and frankly it costs about 50% more the VX Nano… is Apple worth it?January 30, 2009 at 8:39 pm #181933Alfihar
ParticipantWell the Apple Mighty Mouse…
The good:
1) It can run on either one or two batteries so it’s not that heavy.
2) It works very well with OS X (not much use here)
3) I’ve had no issues with precision
4) 360 degree scrollThe bad:
1) The scroll ball clogs up like an older roller ball mouse and you can’t clean it
2) You can’t right and left click at the same time (useless for games)
3) You have to lift your finger off the left side of the mouse to right click
4) It’s glued togetherI have a couple of Bluetooth Mighty Mouse (mice, mouses…?) because they came with my Macs. The one I use with my NC10 no longer scrolls down, my other one doesn’t scroll up or down (even if I clean it by rolling it around upside-down). On my main Mac I vastly prefer to use a Bluetooth Wacom Graphire instead, the Mighty Mouse is a backup.
I’m making it sound very bad, but I do rather like them, they are nice mice to use with a Mac and when it’s working the 360 scroll ball is useful. Personally I wouldn’t buy one to go with an NC10.
I’m actually a little bit undecided as to whether to keep using the BT Mighty Mouse with my NC10 and not have to worry about the receiver (almost lost it a few times). Or switch back to the VX Nano which can scroll down…

MemberI did the math (am an engineer by day) and the power draw is minuscule. Not worth factoring into your decision at all… like one minute of battery life less. See here for more.

MemberRight… so I’ll go for bluetooth… no receiver… one less thing to worry about.
Any suggestions on what to chose? Which model? Something comfortable yet portable… i had in mind the M$ 5000 or Logitech V470[although it’s ugly :P]… anything else I should consider?January 31, 2009 at 12:22 am #181934Alfihar
ParticipantI’ve heard some good things about the Razer ProClick, that one might be worth investigating.

MemberHi, I’m glad this topic has come up. I intend to buy a Bluetooth mouse. Some brief research led me to the Dell 5-button Travel Mouse FW448. It seems fine, has good user reviews on the website, and cheap: US$29.99 list price, and there are discounts.
Anyone had any experience with these?
Best to all sammyfans,
Tiesenhausen

MemberI was considering a bt mouse as well and bought one: The M$ 5000. Why? Well because it was cheaper than the Logitech (and we’re blaming Microsoft for being greedy….). You can buy a refurbished one on ebay for example.
Also I like the colors of the MS 5000 BT mouse; it’s some sort of white (on top) with black housing.. Goes very well (IMHO) with my white NC 10

MemberWell I bought the M$ 5000 today… and after a bit of doing [had to update the BT driver to the latest] the mouse is working.
My first impressions [in comparison to VX Nano]:
– better handling
– a bit less accurate
– quiet buttons [they make a nice click sound :-)]
– the wheel is … different, less accurate but I think I’m going to like it
– the mouse is smallerOverall I think that M$ 5000 is a very nice mouse, plus is cheaper ten VX Nano, so I would recommend it.

MemberAnd the power usage? I imagine bluetooth would use more power than the VX Nano’s wireless?

MemberI also bought the M 5000 and like it very much

Frankly I thought the same thing. But I turns out that there is little or no difference at all. Today I’ll do some tests to confirm that, and let you know.February 1, 2009 at 4:55 pm #181945Uncle Frank
MemberAnother vote for the MS5000. No software required… just turn it on and it goes to work.
