Yesterday I installed Win 8 on my N310. I was hesitant until I read this review:
http://www.zdnet.com/installing-windows-8-on-your-old-pc-could-turn-it-into-greased-lightning-7000002903/This review is almost like a little tutorial for the reluctant:
http://www.slashgear.com/windows-8-review-20252507/The install process did make me uninstall 2-3 programs it said were not compatible, including, strangely, Windows Live Essentials. The other two were the Easy Resolution Manager and Acronis. I did reinstall the Easy Resolution Manager later, and it seems to work fine. I have not tried the others yet. Everything else I tried seemed to work fine; I had opted to keep all my programs, etc., for now.
Win 8 works on the N310 even though the requirements say you need minimum resolution of 1368×768. You cannot run things from the pretty tiles on the Start Page with resolution lower than 1024×768, but everything works from the Desktop, which is pretty much just like Win7. Even though the N310 will go up to 1152×864 (including 1024×768), I prefer the native 1024×600 because the higher options look “squished”/”stretched”. I only switch to the higher resolutions when I cannot see part of the screen any other way. For the time being I have opted not to avail myself of the wonders of the apps on the Win 8 Start Screen. I know they are pretty buttons, but everything on there is available the old-fashioned way via the Desktop. Also, anything in your Quick Start bar on the Desktop also appears on the Start Screen, and those do work. Just not the special new tile things, but I do not need instant access to Photos, Calendar, Sports, Weather, etc. I do not access those things constantly. So I find I am back to using the Desktop running Chrome set up to automatically open my email and other tabs by default just as I have for the last couple of years. That is not to say I regret upgrading to Win 8 on my N310. There are things I like about it. I will just have to work with it for a while.
I do not have time to post more right now, but then there is not a whole lot more I can say right now anyway. I will try to come back and respond to questions, but I am no expert.

NF310 resolution is 1366 x 768
Windows 8 requirement is 1366 x 768
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/system-requirementsSo it should be fine
Do the “gestures” with the trackpad work?
Thanks,
November 6, 2012 at 2:23 am #221616RainmanPMemberThanks, but I do not have NF310 but NP-N310. Unless there is something hidden somewhere that I have not been able to find, max resolution is 1152×864.
If you are talking about “swiping” from the left, right, etc., I have not been able to get anything to happen. I have to admit, though, that I am comfortable to with just using Win 8 much like Win 7. I go straight to the Desktop and work from there. So far, I guess I am not really getting any benefit from the upgrade. I have actually removed all of the live tiles from my Start Screen since I cannot use them due to the resolution issue. The Apps will open at resolution as low as 1024×768.
I have not yet installed Win 8 in my much more powerful desktop. I probably will eventually since I did buy an upgrade for it. I am just playing with it a bit on the netbook first.
