MemberI got my netbook on the 27th (December). I booted it up, configured my settings and everything worked perfectly. I tested out the webcam a couple times to see how good it was and it seemed pretty decent to me.
Today, however, I turn my nc10 on only to find that the “Play Camera” program does not work anymore. When I double click the icon, I receive a message that states: “An invalid argument was encountered.” It then proceeds to open up Play Camera but with a grey area where the image is supposed to be.
I do not understand why this is happening. I restarted my netbook several times, but to no avail; my webcam still doesn’t work. I check to programs on the control panel to see if
Play Camera is installed and it is. It has not been deleted.I started to wonder if the webcam was the problem instead of the Play Camera program. So, I went to youtube and signed into my account. I went to “quick upload” to test out the webcam. For those who may not know, that gives you the option to record videos directly to youtube by using a webcam. It could not find the nc10’s webcam.
Again, I don’t understand what has happened. Then I noticed something. I remembered that when I clicked “My Computer”, I saw small icons. For example, under “FIles Stored on This Computer”, I see icons of “Shared Folders” and “Joseph’s Documents”. Further down, I see “Hard Disk Drives” and below that, icons of “Local Disk (C:)” and “Local Disk (D:). You also see the Bluetooth icon farther down. I remember that when I first got this netbook, there was another line stating something like “Scanners and Cameras(?)”. And under that, I saw the icon of the “Namuga 1.3” camera. I looked today and that icon is not there anymore.
I am desperate for help. Does this mean that my camera has been “deleted” or something? Because I really need a webcam. I know that some people do not use their webcams and think nothing of it. But to me, a webcam is pretty useful.
If anyone has any idea of what has happened, please respond. I have no idea what is going on.
Thank you for reading π
Joseph9307Note: I have Windows XP. I have deleted McAfee Antivirus and installed AVG instead. I have also downloaded Quake 3 onto this little netbook. I attempted to download counter strike 1.6, but it would not work and I have deleted it. Does any of this affect my webcam? Are there viruses and such that restrict webcam usage? (Sorry for the long post, I just need help. Thank you once again -Joseph9307).

MemberHave a look in Control Panel > Device Manager under “Imaging Devices”.
Here you should find the Namuga 1.3M Webcam. Make sure that it is enabled.
If it is already enabled then go to the Samsung Download Centre and download the Camera driver / software again and try reinstalling it.
Link to the download page is here.
Once you have done that try the camera again.

Are there viruses and such that restrict webcam usage? It is very unlikely that any of this will be the cause of your webcam stopping working. The most likely causes are a software/driver fault (reinstalling should solve this) or a hardware problem (which would require a repair by Samsung).

MemberCrud…
Nope, I could not find the Namuga Camera under Imaging Devices. In fact, in the Device Manager, there wasn’t an “Imaging Devices” option.I downloaded the driver from the website you gave me, but I don’t understand what to do with it. The file was saved on my desktop. I extracted all the files from that folder and now they are also on my desktop…
What happens now?I think that my webcam has somehow been disabled. Like it doesn’t exist…
Any response is welcome. Thank you for helping me!January 2, 2009 at 9:18 pm #178279adatay92
MemberOne of the files you extracted will be setup.exe.
Double click on this file and follow the instructions on screen to install the drivers / software for the Namuga 1.3M Webcam.

MemberI have the same problem but when I try to install the Namuga driver I get a message that the camera is not present. The fact that I am looking at it makes this all the more baffling. I have no “imaging devices” listed in my devices manager either. Oddly enough the driver for a D Max webcam installs but still no webcam! I have even fresh installed XP SP3 and updated online. Any ideas? Surely a replacement cam would cost more than the NC10 is worth? π

ParticipantGlynardo – Welcome to the forum
It sounds like the camera module is defective if you cannot install the driver because it cannot see the hardware.
Try emailing or ringing mk-electronic.com for a quotation
The NC10 camera details are:

Edit: Rallysnapper has posted details about another supplier that is in the UK
notebookrepair.co.uk
I’ve checked and they are selling the camera board for ΓΒ£23.50
Direct link hereThey also appear to sell other useful bits ‘n bobs, Cooling Fan which seems reasonably priced and also the LCD harness which seems a tad expensive π
ps They also sell the Bluetooth Module for ΓΒ£17.63 – Thinking that tonytb may be interested π

MemberSon just had a problem with my Webcam not working, you have to do cams on MSN apparently!!! Anyway, fiddled around for a bit trying to find device drivers etc but couldn’t find anything on there at all – goodness knows why they should dissappear all of a sudden. Did a google search on the webcam and found a post on here altho it didn’t answer my query so then used the search function which pulled up this thread which is pretty old but did the trick.
Thank you once again sammynetbook forum for sorting out my issue, don’t know why I didn’t think to come here in the first place. Camera now working – still love my two year old NC10, use her every day and could not live without her by my side!

MemberHi,
I have the same problem. It is not the cam, it is still good but the latest XP software uprgrade killed it. When I tried to chat with my Thai girlfriend the cam was disabled and in the photoshot program I got a black pic.
The cam is seen by XP because it tells me that my cam does not conform to the XP requirements. Darnn Windoze!!!
Did Samsung rewrite the driver so it will work again? I don’t want to install a wrong driver. This happened on a friend’s Windows 7 laptop. His old Logitech cam worked when plugged in but after installing the Logitech Vista software it could not be recognized anymore by Windoze 7! WTF …
Any suggestions? Best regards, JΓΆrg.

MemberBefore opening these threads there are “Stickies’ (will not be deleted) above them… one gives guides to drivers for the NC10 Family of netbooks.
Unfortunately, there are MANY different versions of NC10… the only indication is on the label under your netbook giving the FULL Part No.
e.g. NP-NC10-HAV1UK/NP-NC10-HAW1UK/NP-NC10-HAZUK1 – & etc.
guessing that your netbook is the ‘LAST one’ try the Camera (webcam) Software- Play Cam – on the Software page of Samsung Support
There is a Win XP Driver Camera,Namuga , on the Driver page
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/NP-NC10-HAZ1UK-downloads?downloadName=SW
If your Model Number is different… enter the complete Part No. in the search box – top right of the support page.
Hope that is useful…
