MemberMaybe it’s a secret feature – try prodding your screen and see if anything happens 😀

Memberin the samsung user recovery software, there’s also a reference to ‘if your model has a touchscreen’….
i’m not aware of any other sammy laptops with this feature.

I wouldn’t. I find it annoying trying to ensure my screen stays clean without it being a touchscreen. Using a touchscreen netbook or similar device would infuriate me no end, as I’d feel compelled, as I do now, to make sure there are no fingerprints or grubby marks all over the screen.January 14, 2009 at 12:12 pm #179737PanMan
MemberI’m prodding to no avail 🙁

[/quote1231944812]Heh my wife will tell from experience how angry I get if she pokes the screen to point at something!

[/quote1231944917]Somehow, my screen seems to acquire fingerprints even though I don’t touch it lol. I think I’d need to wear special gloves or something if I ever had a touchscreen. 😀

MemberHmm well its certainly an interesting update… now I have an on screen keyboard when logging in and the trackpad has been disabled and I cant seem to be able to re-enable it. It has also added all of the windows tablet items to the start menu… hmmm, very annoying update! DO NOT INSTALL!! – unless you have a touchscreen. Im trying to remove the update now, i’ll post a how-to when i’ve accomplished it!

MemberSOLUTION BELOW:
Found this guide online and i have updated it a little for the nc10 with no working trackpad.
Renaming/Deleting the “idcphid.sys” file under C:windowssystem32drivers will work apparently.STEPS:
1. Open “My Computer” (using the keyboard) and go to the following location C:windowssystem32drivers.2. Find a file named “idcphid.sys” and rename it to “idcphidMODIFIED” – to rename, make sure the file is selected in explorer, then press the Alt key to bring up the file menu, here you can select “Rename” with the keyboard.
3. Now uninstall the “IdeaCom HID Touch Screen (PS/2)” driver under “Human Interface Devices” in “Device Manager” (Device Manager can be found under “Control Panel” > “Administrative Tools” > “Computer Management”)
4. Your computer will require a restart. After the restart completes your problem should be fixed. It is probably best to now hide from windows update.
5. On my system, the synaptics touchpad worked, but had no drivers. Windows should find the drivers automatically and will ask you to reboot your system (this is in vista btw).

MemberHad this update on a few desktops at work and yes, it disables the mouse/pointing device. Thanks microsoft xx

MemberThe above process works to disable the offending driver however it is significantly easier if you have a USB mouse available.
Update: It looks like Microsoft pulled this program from the Windows update site…..

[/quote1232369208]Had the same problem as you, finally got it fixed by uninstalling the drivers via the device management screen, restarted and Windows update did the rest.
