Hi,
I’ve recently installed VLC instead MPC. I now have a problem with auto dimming, which kicks in, although I excluded the vlc.exe in Samsung Battery Manager. With MPC I had no problems. What might be wrong?
February 13, 2009 at 12:38 pm #183583FreddyMemberGo to the directory where Samsung Battery Manager is, default is:
c:program filessamsungsamsung battery manager and select Properties for the MediaList.ini file.My guess is that the read only checkbox is checked.
If so – uncheck it and save (apply/ok)Then go to Samsung Battery Manager again and exclude vlc.
For the exclude to work you should get a pop-up confirmation box, if not then the MediaList.ini is read-only, i.e write protected.
I’ve found this problem on my Sammy.
Was this the problem – did the fix work?
(the reason this problem is not presten in Media Player Classic (MPC) is that this player is excluded by default in the MediaList.ini file from the beginning)

[/quote1234528422]February 13, 2009 at 4:45 pm #183587ea66MemberThanks 🙂 The pop-up has appeared and vlc.exe has been registered [player31=vlc.exe] in the file.
The problem is that the screen keeps dimming… what else can be wrong?February 14, 2009 at 10:25 am #183584FreddyMemberDimming or turning black?

Try uninstalling the Samsung battery manager and controlling the battery life using Windows Power schemes. Select:Start > Settings > Control Panel > Power Options and select Power schemes and try ‘Always On’ from the drop-down menu

[/quote1234740378]I do not recommend this simply because the Samsung Battery Manager is a quite handy tool with better settings than the Windows Power Management.
What’s up with all this “To solve your Problem simply uninstall XYZ” Solutions? Not everyone is a pro-user and some people actually like the software Samsung provided with the Netbook. Not to mention that the first thing you will hear from the Samsung Hotline is “Do you have our SOftware installed?” when you call them for support.
So think outside the box and find real solutions please.
Back to Topic:
To solve your Problem all you have to do is right-click on the Samsung Battery Manager Tray Icon and then disable the Auto Dimming feature.
February 16, 2009 at 8:52 am #183588ea66MemberWell the problem has solved itself… I generally use hibernation instead of shut down and it appears that after adding a program to the list you just need to reboot the system… which I do only when absolutely needed 🙂
Problem solved.February 16, 2009 at 12:29 pm #183586TCMuffinMember[quote1234786806=Don_Audio]

If that’s what suits you, that’s fine. However, given the relatively low capability of the NC10, I prefer to have a minimum of extraneous software installed on my netbook.[quote1234786806=Don_Audio]

I don’t consider myself a ‘pro user’ of the NC10 as I only received my Sammy on Christmas Day. I did write my first computer program in Fortran in 1974 whilst I was still at school, so I do have experience of computers, but I know I still have a lot to learn. However, I don’t expect to have to call the Samsung Hotline unless I have a hardware failure. And if I do have to call the Samsung Hotline then, and only then, will I install whatever software I need to resolve the problem.

Actually I was – and if a member does not like my offered solution they don’t have to try it. Part of the benefit of many different users posting suggested solutions, is that a member has a choice of fixes to try.February 16, 2009 at 2:36 pm #183590mossieMemberA bit different sutuation but worth mentioning. I have registered KMplayer with Battery Manager and it didn’t work. It was saved in the .ini file but without any extension (e.g. player31=KMplayer). Changing it to player31=KMplayer.exe solved the problem.

March 24, 2009 at 10:50 pm #183589ea66MemberWell my problem is back.
I reinstalled windows last night, registered vlc in Battery Manager… and the screen keeps dimming 🙁
There is a line in MediaList.ini about vlc:
PlayerName31=vlc.exeNetbook always runs on a customised power profile, like the one mentioned in one of the pinned topics here.
What can be wrong?
My windows is brand new with all hotfixes installed from WU and optimised with CCleaner and PerfectDisk + some disabled services that I don’t need. -
