MemberWonder if anyone can help with this?..
I’ve installed K-Lite codec pack which comes with Media Player Classic (which is the setup i use on my desktop) and tried to play a video to test the quality. It was a small Xvid episode of Arrested Development, so not something i would consider particulary demanding. Despite this the film kept skipping, both audio and video, but i have no idea why.
I know people have been playing games like GTA etc on here without problems but i can’t play a little video…? Something must be wrong
Prior to this i had played with the setup a little and a got rid of all those annoying background processed that i find unnecesary (hotkeys, configuration panels, bluetooth etc) and found that the system overall was much less sluggish, especially on start-up: now running 23 processes, down from 40.
Can anyone help with this? I am always careful not to stop essential processes but maybe i have done something wrong to effect video playback/
Solutions…?
Thanks

MemberI havent use the K lite codec pack as i use powerdvd and itrs associated codes (h246) with quicktime and divx. I did not by default the drivers were not set to use hardware acceleration, and it wouldnt play hd files. once clicked all ran smoothly. Is there an option in MPC to enable hardware acceleration.

[/quote1227283179]Only the “Home Cinema” version of MPC has an option for hardware acceleration.

MemberOnly thing I can think is to maybe try VLC as your player?

Memberok have you tried graphedit to see if there is a compatibility problem, also have you installed the divx codec from there website and removed the k lite pack. Im not sure which codecs it installs and i have found that h264 and divx qtime have pretty much always played any file i have required except .mkv containers for which i use a program to extract to an avc encode file.
Its odd though that it works on your main unit and not the nc10

MemberIf you install two codecs that do the same thing then you will experience problems. Basically I had this issue about a year ago with a codec pack installed as well as koepi’s xvid. The video then went all weird and jumpy, a bit like watching it in a strobe light too. Uninstalling one of the codecs fixed this. If I were you I’d uninstall every single codec pack you have (as they’re unneccessary) and then simply install 2 codecs.
Koepi’s Xvid
AC3 filterIf you watch any subtitle movies then also install
Vobsub
Each of these codecs is totally free and safe to use, try getting them from free-codecs (on a google search of the items look for their link in the results).
With these 3 codecs I’ve been able to play literally everything I can find that’s worth watching, incidentally, the xvid codec also works for divx and fourcc codecs in general, hence why they play nearly everything.
Otherwise, also install VLC as it also plays nearly everything!

Memberjonbad
thanks for the advice. i removed k-lite and just installed Xvid & AC3. It played but the problem didn’t go away, it still skipped..
After i installed VLC however it worked perfectly. So thanks again. What a lovely little player this is.

MemberI’ll second VLC. Its the only thing I install now for video playback, I don’t bother trying different codec packs as VLC just works and works well.

MemberI’d agree with that, it used to be a right pain in the ass to try and locate codec packs etc for mediaplayer.
VLC just… works pretty muchNovember 23, 2008 at 5:07 pm #170095kahluafan
MemberYeah VLC or MPC does the job, all Xvid/Divx and .mkvs work smoothly, including 720p HD clips, very impressed!

MemberCan you give a link to the movie you are having trouble viewing? So that I can check if I get the same problem or not. So far I haven’t had any problem viewing any sort of media file, also have the K-Lite codecs installed.

MemberHi Guys,
I also had some issues with the video playback, VLN wouldn’t play the videos… well, it would, but it just displayed crappy pixelated and lagged images.
What I did was to install k like codecs, but in the configuration I choose to use haali splitter as the overlay renderer. And at last I increased the memory of haali media splitter to 64mb and 55 frames.
I’m not a 100% sure if these changes made the trick because I’m not a codec genius, but at least I don’t have any skips playing an HD mkv file.
Cheers,

Membercommon denominator seems to be klite.
unisntall it and try the cccp codec pack.

MemberGot to say not a big fan of codec packs for the above reasons although i use powerdvd 8 which handles nearly everything i put at it (with just divx and quicktime codecs installed as well as cyberlink h.264) bar mkv which i extract to raw video/audio streams.

MemberI second TheRing’s comments. I don’t see the point in having countless codecs installed on a system, when the likelihood of a conflict is very high.
I tend to use Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC HC), FFDShow, CoreAVC and PowerDVD. Most of my viewing is HD content, so this works wonders for me. MPC HC takes care of everything from 720p mkv files to Blu-ray, while PowerDVD is used to primarily watch DVDs, as I like the interface and navigation options.
