Hi,
I have a Logitech V450 Nano mouse and a Vodafone 3G dongle and neither work in either of the two left side USB ports. There are no conflicts that I can see and a USB pen seems to work OK.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks,
Derek.
December 7, 2008 at 7:19 pm #174161PsychNC10Memberprobably already done this, but do both work on other computers?
and they are both enabled?
December 7, 2008 at 8:01 pm #174162DeekoMemberThey actually both work in the right hand port!
December 7, 2008 at 8:04 pm #174166lizzieMemberCould it be a power issue? Try a powered device in the left hand side?
December 7, 2008 at 8:52 pm #174163DeekoMemberHmm dunno – the usb drive works in the left hand ports and it’s ok. I just updated the chipset drivers and the bios but to no avail. Can anyone else use these ports for wireless mice / 3g dongles? I assume everyone can?
December 7, 2008 at 9:27 pm #174156Sandy_UKMemberHi , have been using the 3 broadband dongle and a Logitech wireless optical netbook mouse…both on the left USB ports with no issues so far …
December 7, 2008 at 11:32 pm #174158hefMemberget an eraser (a regular pencil eraser) and slice a thin enough piece off of it to fit into the usb port and rub the usb contacts with it. do the same with the devices. this will clean any carbon or other nonsense off of the contacts ensureing they are getting a good connection.
check that the devices are both enabled in device manager, if you disable them on one port device manager will remember the setting.

December 8, 2008 at 8:15 am #174164DeekoMemberThanks everyone – I persevered with my dongle and it appears it may work OK in the front left port – I’ll try again in a minute or two. I guess it could be as simple as a dirty port! That’ll make me feel a bit stupid! 🙂
December 8, 2008 at 9:37 am #174154jezMemberI often experience this kind of behaviour on my desktop. Some devices work in some ports but not others with other things working in all ports.
It’s something I’ve never really understood but have just worked around. To me it appears that ports are treated independently – have you noticed that if you move a device to a new port sometimes it runs the “new hardware” wizard again.
Anyways, hope you have got it all up and running now.

That’s correct Jez. If you plug in, for example, a USB flash drive into the 1st port on the left of the NC10, you will see, in the system tray, drivers being installed. This will then reoccur if you plug the same USB flash drive into the 2nd USB port on the left and also the right USB port.December 8, 2008 at 4:09 pm #174160eldarasMemberA few weeks ago I my wireless dongle stoped working after I plugged an external hard drive (the HD had its own power)… But I think it was a power issue :S (of course both were on the left side). I just had to plug the wireless dongle on the right and voila.

[/quote1228756859]usb ports are grouped into busses under usb root hubs within the windows system. if you switch a device from a port on one root hub to a port on another, you get the new hardware wizard as that root hub has never seen the device before.
dunno how the nc10’s southbridge treats its root hubs, but a root hub lacking a driver would mess with functionality of certain usb ports.
December 8, 2008 at 5:45 pm #174165UggyMemberJust a tip..
Access Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Double click on the USB Root Hubs in turn
click the power tab
It will tell you what devices are attached and current draw / requirements.
A Pwered Hub can obviously supply a lot more devices / current than a passive one.
