underspec'd RAM included????

hi,

while waiting for my 2GB to arrive in the post, i ran CPU-Z and noticed that my 1GB stick seems to only be 333Mhz. It is a PC2-5300 made by Samsung and the timings table shows it compatible at 200/266/333. The memory tab with the live data confirms that it is running between 331-333.

Correct me if i am wrong, but isn’t the RAM supposed to be at 533?

533 is when you’re running in dual channel mode.

I’m sure someone will step in to correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to run at 333, so even 533Mhz RAM will be underclocked.

Just to check I ran CPU-Z and it reports 333 for me too, and I’ve got a 2GB 667Mhz stick installed.

Edit: I did of course mean 667 not 533 for my stick!

533 is definitely the FSB speed and i had thought that most people upgrading were having a dilema about 667/800 which both clock down anyway to 533.

mataempat – how does one run in dual channel mode with only 1 slot? or is your point that you can’t.

Sorry dino you’re right, I don’t know what I was on when I wrote that post. I had frequencies mixed up all over the place!

looking into it, this is really confusing with all of the multipliers and DDR2.

could someone who actually understands this properly please confirm that 333 mhz is what should be showing?
