MemberNot really travelled to different time zones with a laptop or netbook before, but just wondering what the issues are or what people generally do.
i.e. is it worth adjusting the time zone and time on XP if you travel to a different time zone? Especially if you’ll be connecting to local hot spots.
A downside I can see is it could confuse some applications if you are going back in time, as XP will surely start time stamping files and other objects with dates and times earlier than current time.
I guess I could just ignore the different time zone to keep things simple. Would this have any affect on connecting to local hot spots?
Any opinions?
Also, any good applications (or widgets) for showing world times?

MemberThe time zone settings shouldn’t have any effect on connecting to local wifi hotspots.
One pro for changing to the correct timezone in XP is so that Outlook reminders / calendar events will occur at the correct times.

MemberGood point. My concern is that the machine will timestamp files with the new time that could be older than files written before the change, and I’ve already found problems with some licence software that thinks you are trying to roll back the time to claim more licence time.
Also wonder about how mail applications will handle emails. Do new emails still come in at the top of the list or could they end up below emails you received before the time change?
Edit: Actually, thinking about it, it’s just the time zone that changes and the files internally I believe may be stamped in UTC, so shouldn’t be an issue ?

Yeah I think you’re spot on there. Changing the timezone within Windows shouldn’t cause a timestamp issue, it’s just if you manually changed the time itself that things could get confused. -
