Got a strange one here, I’ve installed the synaptics touchpad driver in windows 7 and within an hour of use the cursor freezes i can access the desktop with keys so im guessing the touchpad driver failed, but it might be the synaptics drivers conflicting with the OS.
Anyone got any similar experience of help before i start uninstalling things?
Cheers in advance
January 14, 2009 at 3:09 am #179696ResetMemberAre you using the XP or Vista version of the touchpad driver? I found the XP version froze while the Vista version did not. In addition, I turned off all but a few of the extra functions in the Synaptics software–I only kept vert/horizontal scrolling and Palmcheck.
January 14, 2009 at 10:16 am #179692SideburntMemberAh, I thought that was what was happening, but I cant find the Vista version of the drivers, is there a link floating around, I searched the forums and no dice grandma.
January 14, 2009 at 3:55 pm #179700Paddy2691MemberI used the vista version and the trackpad still froze occasionally when i touched the scroll bar so ‘ive simply turned scrolling off.

under his advice i have installed the vista synaptics driver and disabled most of the features im sad not to see the glide option in these drivers the xp version did have this feature and it was excellent.

Maybe I’ll try the XP version outline in the blog, I don’t even know what version I have installed, plus every time I start it up it asks me if I’m sure I want to run the setup for it, which is odd.
I’d also like to know where the graphics driver is that the guy talked about which boosted his Windows Experience Index.

February 2, 2009 at 5:35 pm #179698berflesMemberI need to be able to scroll with the trackpad though, I can’t stand clicking the bar or using Page Down. Is there any way to use it?
February 2, 2009 at 7:57 pm #179701ShutterBugSteveMemberI was having the same issues with the XP driver. I found a link somewhere on this site that led me to a Vista driver from a different Samsung laptop and this seems to work great. No more freezes of the mouse pointer.
I’ll see if I can figure out where I found the link…
Ok, found it. I don’t know how to create links in here, so I’ll just tell you which thread it is in. 🙂
It’s on the 3rd page of the thread called “My Windows 7 Experience” or something of that sort. The link takes you to something like http://www.netbookish.com or something. Sorry for the vagueness of my answer… Forum newbie. 🙂

change link nameFebruary 2, 2009 at 9:55 pm #179702ShutterBugSteveMemberThanks Alfihar, that’s the one!. I’ll have to take a look at your other link you posted when I’m not at work. 🙂
February 4, 2009 at 11:40 pm #179695ktbMemberI came over here thinking I was the only one with this problem! Thank goddess you’re all on the ball. Going to try uninstalling older driver and installing Vista one, instead, and see if I can get it to work. (I’m also going to try installing a driver for this new external mouse — it’s doing funky things when resuming from hibernation.)
February 5, 2009 at 2:14 am #179699berflesMemberVista driver seems to have worked for me, hasn’t frozen yet.
