I’m new here so be gentle! I’m seriously thinking of buying the NC10 for my wife and know it comes with 1Gb of RAM as standard, is it really necessary to upgrade to 2Gb? If so please could someone link me to a site selling it as I’m not very techy 🙁
Also do you think I could haggle in-store to get it cheaper or maybe throw in a few accesories??!! In these credit crunch times I’m hoping retailers will go that bit further to get your custom!!

As for upgrading the RAM, that is personal preference – I think nearly everyone on the forum has upgraded to 2Gb.
As for trying to haggle, well see what they can knock off the price – if they won’t knock off the price, see what they will throw in free (maybe they could upgrade to 2Gb in the shop for you – worth trying).

I don’t think the 1gb is necessary but it depends on how the NC10 is going to be used. I like to multi-task and often have several programs open at once including Firefox with many tabs. I decided to upgrade to 2gb and it has helped.
I suggest you wait until you get the NC10 and give it a couple of weeks first before you decide whether to upgrade or not. Having said that the RAM upgrade can cost as little as £10-12 so it might be worth doing anyway! Here is a link to a compatible 2gb RAM upgrade.
As for haggling…. you could certainly give it a go – can’t do any harm. It may help to go into a store armed with web prices if you are looking them to match the price of online retailers. Have a look at this section of the forum for more information on prices and good deals!
January 12, 2009 at 10:00 pm #179559WilkyMemberFirstly thanks for making me welcome! Secondly thanks for the quick replies, I’ll have to see how it runs with 1gb of ram, but like you say it’s not exactly expensive to upgrade! I want to buy instore as if problems arise I can easily take back plus I want to have a haggle with them
Again thanks for the help, I’ll be making this forum a regular from now on I think!

January 13, 2009 at 12:04 pm #179554MattJessopMemberMy view is that XP does not need the memory upgrade but then again I only use it for surfing and e-mail generally.
January 13, 2009 at 1:49 pm #179556mossieMemberI’ve had my nc10 for about a week now and I find 1GB sufficient even for some older games. XP does not require mouch memory. I also have 1GB in my XP desktop and it works perfect.
January 13, 2009 at 3:26 pm #179558philMemberI’d recommend sticking with the 1GB as the NC10 still runs very well on that, especially if you’re not doing anything memory-intensive.
If at some point your wife starts finding things are getting a bit slow then you can easily upgrade. The memory is very cheap and this forum will help you out when it comes to installing it.
January 13, 2009 at 6:19 pm #179560WilkyMemberThink I’m gonna go to currys digital (was Dixons) as mates brother works there and he can get me 10% off! Might even push for a free case!
Thanks for the advice above 🙂
January 14, 2009 at 7:26 am #179555SzabsMemberIm still using mine with a 1gb stick and it runs everything fine. Unless you wanna do something hardcore you won’t need 2gb. (Im still running my desktop with 512mb 😀 )
