MemberBought a NC10 last November. Just noticed the receipt for it is just about readable…
The rate at witch is is fading I guess by next month I wont have one.
Going to Currys today to ask for a written receipt – dont hold out much hope.
Has anyone had a problem getting under warranty service with an un-readable receipt?
I appreciate the need for Thermal printouts they must be very cost effective…

MemberI know just what you mean, they fade so quickly. Is the warranty with Samsung though, after a certain period is the retailer still responsible? Not that I’ve registered my purchase with Samsung. Maybe I should?!

MemberHmm yeah I’ve noticed that, I’ve also had receipts go mostly black as the thermal paper obviously got heated up from being shunted around in my wallet for ages!

MemberWhen you need a repair, Samsung’s website does require you to upload a copy of the receipt. So you better scan the receipt while it is legible.

Perhaps you should scan it in and play with the settings to get a decent copy of it now, if nothing else you could take the copy with the original and show them the problem and why you copied it.

MemberMe again – called in Currys and explained to a very pleasant sales person. He agreed with me and looked up the sale on the sales computer. He re-printed a new legible receipt on a Laser printer – job done

MemberA footnote on thermal receipts – My 5 year old Sony TV with 5 year warranty died today. Found the receipt and there was only 2 days to expiry. The point is – the receipt was perfectly legible after all that time…. That was from John Lewis.Makes you think…

MemberI was going to say I work for Currys and its easy enough for us to run you off a normal A4 reciept which wont fade! The thermal printers are crap – I have reciepts all over the place which look empty!

MemberMe again…just need to share my experience again with till receipt for Tesco
external hard drive still under warranty.Going through my wallet I noticed an
almont unrecognisable receipt for the drive. Thinking I would get the same
response as from Currys (who were brilliant) I decided to ask for a fresh
till receipt. The reply was “we no longer do re prints”)!! I rang trading
standards to dertermine the law.The reply was “by law, they
dont have to give you a receipt” and tough luck .Even it
the receipt was for a large screen TV I would have been “goosed”
So look after them and at the least photo copy whilst legible..

MemberThermal till receipts need to be kept in a box and cool. Sunlight and heat fades them.

MemberI buy most of my electronic stuff online nowadays. Not only do I end up with a PDF of the online purchase receipt, but I can go back to my account and print it again if needed.
It hasn’t mattered much, though; I haven’t had to do a warranty claim for years.
