Well the NC10 has been out for almost a month, so the question is what improvements could be done to made the NC10 even better ?
My thoughts are
2009 upgrades
2 Gb Ram as Standard
3 G intergrated.
802.11 N Wireless
Gigabyte EthernetTrackpad Enlarge
( I think there is enough room for an extra 1/2 cm height) and 1/2cm width as wellSlight raised edge for the trackpad.
Updated Bios to give a bit better battery life.
Decent slipcase
Wished for
Decent sized/fast SSD’s, by the end of 2009 we may have affordable 64GB by year end but a 128Gb is really the minimum and that I supect will not come about at reasonable cost until 2010.
Updated Chipset with better Graphics and capability for higher memory.
Windows 7 to be released with the benefits that seem to be indicated by early reviews. i.e the same or better performance hit as XP.
Other items
Dual Core Atom.
Not sure on this one, the increased power usage and decreased batery life may be a worthwhile trade off but I don’t think we actually need more processing power.
A Fast SSD and more memory will I feel give better day to day performance gains, with the benefit of increased battery life.
Higher resolution screen
Not sure on this one, much higher on a ten inch screen and you end up increasing Font’s, icons etc.
What do others think ?

dual core atom already exists and is probably the first thing that will be done along with 3g and vista.November 25, 2008 at 8:10 pm #171439jezMemberGood thoughts Theo.
The things that appeal to me are internal 3G and when SSD drives become cheaper, bigger and faster then that is definitely the way forward. If they could make the trackpad bigger then I wouldn’t say no to that improvement!
Other than that I actually like it very much the way it is 🙂

November 25, 2008 at 8:22 pm #171446motherMemberI’d like to see a higher res screen but keeping the 10in size, say 1280×768. So many things were designed for 1024×768 as a minimum that it would be good to have 768 vertical pixels. I think that res would be fine but then I have been used to browsing webpages on the iPhone recently. Perhaps they could squeeze an 11in screen in without increasing the size too much?
The other thing I would really like to see is dedicated graphics as it would be good to play some more games. I’m not talking crysis on high settings here but maybe WoW, AoE3, Sims 2, BF2 that sort of stuff. The Asus N10 was a good idea but it’s too expensive, getting a bit on the large side and the bezel around the screen is not attractive.
I agree about the 3G although I am not too happy with the speed of browsing on my iPhone so will not be spending money on mobile broadband until this improves. I too would like to see a bios so you could overclock / underclock.
November 25, 2008 at 8:46 pm #171455littleguyMemberIf any or all those things raised the price more than $25 then I wouldn’t want them. To me it’s a nearly flawless exemplar for what netbooks should and can be. Realistically, the only thing worth revising in gen 2 IMHO would be the trackpad, making it a tad bigger. But if if that meant a compromise anywhere else, then forget about it… it’s perfect as is.
Memory is cheap and people can add it themselves. 90% of people probably don’t need an extra gig. Maybe in a year the higher res screen will cost what the current screens do, at which point that seems like a reasonable upgrade. Ditto to the dual core. But for now it’s made every compromise perfectly.
Just my feelings. Samsung hit this one out of the park… sometimes companies try to “improve” things by adding features, but then lose the market because it adds cost or degrades the system in the areas that made the first gen product shine…. let’s hope Samsung doesn’t make that blunder when they do make the next gen.
November 25, 2008 at 8:52 pm #171452techguyoneMemberWireless n , bigger trackpad, Better speakers
rest seems to be fine
November 25, 2008 at 8:57 pm #171447limesmoothMemberAbsolutely spot on, techguyone. That would be my ideal NC10 2ng gen. But compared to what else is out there right now, and at £299, Samsung have played a blinder.
November 25, 2008 at 10:33 pm #171451BritmanMemberone change they could do which wouldn’t cost much, add a spare mini PCIe, then it would be easy for people to upgrade in their own time.
Wireless – can already be upgraded
HSDPA – yes (unless they fit the expansion slots)
WiMaxx – possibly, not really sure.
Track pad – yes
Speakers – possibly
Screen res – yes.And it all depends on cost.

November 26, 2008 at 4:30 am #171453undoMemberI would love to see 1280 x 800 resolution on a 11 inch screen if the larger screen would fit in the current chassis. Wireless “n” would be a plus but not essential. A slightly bigger trackpad and improved button would be nice but I’m getting quite used to the current ones.
Going with a faster, or dual core processor is acceptable only if it means no more heat or power consumption. I’m really tired of laptop computers that run too hot to use on your lap. The NC10 is great in that regard.

Lol, yeah could be possible, would be great if it was one of those new fangled Organic TFT’s, OFL is it? Lower power consumption and better picture quality & contrast etc.Definitely a second vote here for the matte black instead of shiny black finish lol.
November 26, 2008 at 9:54 am #171458s162000MemberI like the current size of the NC10, not too small not too big. I would like to see a 3G slot, better speakers and a better intergrated graphics. But at the same price point or less!
