MemberMy blue NC10 arrived from PC world yearterday , ordered on 25th Nov for £293 , just before prices went up.
The good :
a) Excellent Screen
b) Excellent key board
c) Battery is wow ,
d) General look and feel of the blue unit is goodThe things could be improved:
a) No single button to switch off Bluetooth + wireless this would be handy for flights. (someone on forum showed me how to switch off bluetooth from the task bar.
b) A smaller ligther plug in power supply (if that is possible)
c) rubbish carry bag
d) rubbish samsung software (update plus, magic keys)I have finally got used to the track pad , but I had to disble the pinch funchtion as I kept accidently using this when not wanted.
I have loaded on Office 2003 professional with no problems.
I have deleted without incident Mc’Afee and am running with just the XP firewall and latest updates for XP and office. This is an experiment for a few months to see what happens , I will still use every few days lavasofts free adaware. I just dont want stuff delaying my start up.
Overall , I am very happy with my new portable gadget, my 4 year old HP 15 inch notebook , is likely to be come redundant , and find it self reduced to just serving as access point for my seven year old daughters club penguin .

MemberYou’re damn brave if you run it without a firewall. Windows firewall is full of holes like a cheese shredder.
Use Comodo. It’s free firewall and antivirus. Lovely.

MemberDoesn’t one of the FN keys switch of wireless? – not sure about bluetooth though, I don’t use it.

MemberYes one of the function keys does switch off the wireless but not the bluetooth as well.
Szabs , thanks for the suggestion of Comodo, but the purpose of the experiment is to see what level of virus crap gets to he machine over two months over and above that picked up be free adaware, I wll then use bit defender to scan the system over. I wont be using the netbook for ordering during the time , I have fully protected desk top for that.

Memberimo if you surf on safe sites then the need for ultra strong protection is reduced. If you download and visit untrusted sites then you better had good protection!

MemberUnless you are in the anti-nasties profession (or are a reviewer), what’s the point of inviting in the nasties by not having adequate protection?

[/quote1228350762]Malware protection software is often resource-intensive, and it slows things down–particularly at startup. Traditionally, the “name brand” suites (McAfee, Norton, etc.) have been the worst this way, not to mention that they frequently nag users to purchase more software. If a person’s usage patterns don’t take him to the more seedy places of the Internet, there are some arguments that he doesn’t need top-notch protection.
Personally, I wouldn’t run Windows without at least the Windows firewall, AV, and Windows Defender (free anti-spyware). I used to use AVG for AV, but version 8 got very bloated. I use a tweaked version of Antivir now (tweaked to get rid of the nag screen at updates, as well as the screensplash at startup), and so far it has worked swimmingly.

MemberIve always run windows without any type of virus protection (other than my routers firewall) and Ive never had a problem. Just down surf pron sites, use limewire or download sketchy stuff.
IVe been ubuntu on my NC10. It runs well and does everything Im looking for. No worries about malware either.
