MemberAnd the comments below the article….
Some people (obviously not the ones that have a netbook) still think they are inferior to a laptop with the same speed of processor just because they are smaller.
The netbooks are simply compact laptops with not too speedy processor but hey they do just fine unless you don’t need them to compute the orbits of all stars in the Milky Way LOL

MemberI read some of the comments on this article… and I can’t believe how off base these people are… I figured I made a comment on the site kinda “sticking” up for these netbooks and thought I would share.
I apologize to those that would have preferred I didn’t post this as it may be redundant, but I’m hoping some people get some ideas when they find their new little “toy” comes under fire… maybe they can educate some of these nay sayers who don’t really “get it”.

Quote:I read “most†of the comments on this blog for this particular article – and I have to say… WOW – some of you people are WAY off on what you can and cannot do with a netbook.I’m here writing this on a Samsung NC10 (which is an amazing little device, btw.)
Standard issue Atom 1.6 cpu, 160gb hard drive, 1gb ram. I am triple booting Windows XP, Windows 7 and Fedora 10.
Admittedly… these operating systems are NOT running like the dual cores out there, let alone the quad cores. But here’s the thing:
Skype: Beautiful machine for this type of application.
Emulation: Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64… all run excellent. Good times in a small package.
Photoshop CS3: Yes… It will in fact run Photoshop very well. You won’t be editing 50 layers at 1200 dpi, but you can do some pretty damn good work on this system – even with only 1gb of ram.
Office 2007: No problem… runs it fine.
Picasa 3: Like butter
Mplayer or VLC player can play video at 710hd dpi rather well – especially if you are using CORE’s mp4 drivers. 1080p, not so smooth unfortunately.
Firefox/Chrome: I open 20 to 30 tabs at a time going through Google news reader and just browsing.
Flash video: Read some uninformed commenter mention that you can’t watch youtube. C’mon… really? You can watch HD Hulu on this with mild, but acceptable fram dropping. I can live perfectly well with standard def for my John Stewart episodes.
Now you can do all of that with ease… and have anywhere from 4 to 7 hours of battery life. Good screen brightness. 3 usb ports and all for about $500… please tell me what is not to like?
It’s like all the haters in these comments need a render farm just to open a calculator. Deal with it… These netbooks are amazing for what they do… and quite frankly do more than they were probably even intended.
OUT!
