Hi all, i just got a black nc10 a few weeks ago, and pretty much started to try all sorts of os’s on it, ie windows 7, xp pro, linux etc. overall i’m happy with it, the screen is brill, but i have a couple of issues though.
I never really noticed this when i got it but when the lid is closed if i grab hold of the netbook near the right hand hinge there is a bad creaking noise coming from the hinge ? the left hinge is fine though. I know it’s all plastic parts assembled together but should it really creak bad ?
And i know a lot of people on here say the fan is very quiet, some even saying the hard drive is noisier, but i am finding the fan to be a bit annoying when it’s running, kinda like a small constant whining noise. I did also notice it was on a lot more than it was off for a while. In my playing of different windows etc i must admit i never realised that magic keyboard enabled a fan control, so i can now set it to silent, but then you loose the full cpu performance. even then it can still come on sometimes. Also i notice if you change to silent mode this overrides the battery manager and sets it to maximum battery performance and then the brightness ramps right up and you have to turn it back down ?
So just wondered if it’s normal or not really…
Perfectly normal regarding the Magic Keyboard, fansettings and Battery Manager.
The hinge though – no that is not normal. My NC10 doesn’t creak that way.
I just closed it and lifted it in various angles and no creaking from the hinge. That doesn’t look normal, but if it’s not too bothersome, I guess it can be overlooked.
As for the fan and harddrive noise, I am running vista right now and I don’t notice the fan at all most of the time. When it runs in full speed, I can hear it, but it doesn’t last that long that way.
Overall, it is very quiet and that’s why I like it so much. My long gone asus 1000HA was noisy as hell and I hated it more than anything

ok cheers, maybe my fan is normal i don’t know really, when mine runs at full speed i can hear it in a noisy background, so therfore in a quiet background it sounds a bit too loud for me. Anyway i will speak to pc world real soon about the hinge and maybe the fan as well. thanks for your input anyway.
