Hello!
Being a novice programmer, I’m always looking for new challenges or projects! I’ve installed all my development software on the NC10 and am now beginning to write software for it.
What I would like is people with ideas that they would like software designed! I see lots of posts outlining things like ‘on/off button for touchpad’ etc… I could write this without issue!
So! If you would like a small program designed to do something that you want let me know!
Bye!
February 9, 2009 at 5:17 pm #183131jezMemberAs part of my never begining plan to get coding in c# I always planned to make a prog that could silently use the webcam to mail a pic back home in the event of theft.
I read up a little on webcam capture but got put off when people started suggesting Id burn in hell for invasion of privacy.
I might still have a go one day “for the challenge”.

Of course, the only issue with a program like this is that if the wrong person gets the IP / Port you could end up with some interesting pics turning up!

I think that would be a great idea. One way around the privacy issue is to make the program send pics to your email account instead…

February 9, 2009 at 10:04 pm #183133FreddyMemberWhat you could use is an app in Microsoft Powertoys: TimerShot
and add a feature to e-mail the pics or something.Perhaps even better would be to have the webcam on all of the time and “trigger” it if anything happens in the frame and then start recording + e-mail it.
If you really want a “heavy” project then try to make a program that uses the webcam and is able to interpret gestures made by your hands and fingers to move the cursor around the screen. Who would need a touchscreen display if there was such an app. 😉 Imagine to be able to scroll down webpages, launch programs and move around windows by just using your “hands in the air” 🙂
I’ve seen projects like this, they are however not very sophisticated – some day – I’m sure – there will be such a program. 🙂February 10, 2009 at 2:25 am #183147Camo YoshiMember[quote1234232710=Freddy]

February 10, 2009 at 8:24 pm #183141WigglerMemberliek how these games can interpret movement on a webcam…

February 11, 2009 at 8:47 am #183132jezMemberif you do get something going, would you be able to share the source code on eg google code or sourceforge etc? What language would you be coding in?
This might be a nice little excuse to expand my knowledge a little.
February 11, 2009 at 1:52 pm #183140TJ_1984MemberAny other productions to work on? Of course as requested by Jez I will try and keep this all opensource for anyone who fancies it.
February 11, 2009 at 2:09 pm #183149lisanticaMemberOne program I would like to see is some sort of “green light” icon or some little “green lit video cam” icon on the desktop or taskbar when the webcam is on.
On my one laptop, there is a little light on the bezel so I know it’s on, but on the NC10 there is no light.Just a thought and if this already exists, please point me in the direction to download it or enable it.
Thank you,

It may not be as usable as you think, here’s what it looks like when I set FireFox to be a bit transparent. The underlying windows can be pretty distracting. -
