As you can see in this screenshot, Battery Manager and EDS can’t be run in a limited user account. Anyone else experiencing this? Or are you using an admin account?
I called our local (Finland) Samsung support and they said it’s most likely a feature. Isn’t it a real security risk to use the admin account normally!? The net is full of articles stating that a limited account should be used.
I could solve the problem by creating a script that launches the required apps as admin. But still i’m really annoyed of the admin-only approach!
Edit1:
List of failing apps:
Battery Manager (BatteryManager.exe)
Enhanced Digital Sound Tray App (EDSAgent.exe)
Recovery Solution (WCScheduler.exe)
The admin only issue is partly a problem with XP (and Windows in general) and the way it handles security as well as an issue with a lot of third party applications. With Windows XP you are almost forced to run using an admin account. Things are getting better now with Vista and 7.
I would expect that nearly everyone here will be running using an admin account.
Do you run as a limited user on any other Windows XP machines?

Yes, I’ve got two XP machines with limited accounts. I haven’t had any problems at all. If there has been a need for admin privileges, i’ve used the “run as” feature or logged in as admin for a short time.
Ah, I gave up trying to run as a limited user on XP a long time ago, there were so many programs which needed admin privileges to run I gave up and ran using an admin account. On other operating systems though I run as a limited user.
I do like how Samsung call it a “feature”…
Security wise it’s good practice to run as a limited account, it limits the damage that malware can do and helps to stop users from accidentally damaging the system.
As a side note, by default the “Administrator” account on XP has a blank password which is nice…
