I, like many others, am very interested in the new netbook from Samsung. I have been scouring the web looking for as much information as I can find, while I wait to get the netbook myself, but have found virtually no information on official Samsung accessories.
So I ask you all, what’s the situation; has Samsung left us all in the cold, or do you think there will be accessories released soon such as cases, portable printers, DVD drives etc?
There are a couple of things hinted at in the manual, there’s a link to that on the NC10 info page if you havent found it.
Other than that ive not heard much yet.
Yeah, I read the manual the other day and say the USB DVD drive that was “(optional)”, but I don’t know whether that will be coming out.
I’m honestly more interested in a case to be honest; a hard case at that. I mean, what’s the point in having the best netbook on the market when you can’t properly protect it?
Someone posted up a 3rd party case the other day, in the carry case thread maybe. I’m planning to sling mine in a bag – hopefully get something with a pocket that will keep it in place and stop it getting bashed.
But yeah the whole point of these things is to carry them around!
I saw that thread, with the case logic bag, but, as I carry a backpack with me anyway, I was hoping for a hard protector or case that I can use when I put the netbook in my backpack. The last thing I want is for something to happen to my new netbook while it’s in my backpack; I broke a PDA that way, so I’m quite cautious with my gagdets.
I can imagine that once you have something break on you in transit then it changes the way you handle your electronics. Its probably best not to learn the hard way with a new NC10!

The nice thing about PC’s (as opposed to an Apple Ipod or XBOX 360 for example) is that you don’t have to rely on the manufacturer or even third parties to provide system specific accessories as pretty much anything from any manufacturer designed for PC will work!
I don’t expect that Samsung will release NC10 specific accessories like a DVD drive or printer. If anything you might see an official carrying case and maybe a 9 cell battery. Because for everything else you will find 1000’s of items that have been designed to work through your NC’s standard USB port.

I’ve seen some nice ‘general’ accessories that will work with the NC10, but I was mainly asking as it would be nice to see some official accessories that match the look of the NC10, such as a glossy black slim-line DVD drive, or an official, black, robust case etc.

[/quote1226935687]I do see your point I’m just not sure if in Samsung’s case they feel like it makes financial sense build new accessories for the NC10 when they already have black DVD drives that fit in with the style just fine. I guess it all depends on whether Samsung is looking to position this as a high end “fashion” product like Apple or as a budget to mid level product like Dell, HP, Asus etc. My guess is that it’s closer to the latter.
Based on all of the extremely positive reviews, online buzz and word of mouth I think that this is going to be THE Netbook to own for at least the next 6 months so if Samsung decided to make an accessory line it would sell decently at least.
But with the overcrowded Netbook market where new machines are announced every week, I would wait to see how my product is received by the public and how many people buy it before I spend money making a lot of different accessories for it. And I think that this is what Samsung is doing.

I’d say you’re right. I suppose I have to keep reminding myself that the NC10 has only just been released within the last few weeks, and I only became interested in netbooks in general last week. It’s funny how things come together like that eh? lol
I like the thought of a nice Samsung, or other manufacturer’s, DVD drive that fits the aesthetic of the NC10. I have seen such a drive from LG drive, IIRC, but, although I like the look of it, I would have little to no use for a portable DVD drive. I used it in my original post as an example, but I’m finding it harder to think of what accessories I would use; especially since I’ve already found a robust case for my NC10.
Besides a case and a DVD drive, what accessory would you use?
An in-car charger would be a very welcome addition to the gadget bag, especially if it doubles up as an airline adaptor as well, or am I being too greedy there ?.
In fairness to Samsung i dont think they realised what they were releasing, the fact that the uk website up until recently (last week or so) did not even have a mention or product description of the unit. I think they will have been taken by surprise by how popular the unit has been. For me when you look at the lineup at pcworld of all the netbooks the samsung is the only “adult” looking unit out.
Id expect a few slimline addons being released but probably no different to the slimline stuff they release for there notebooks
A good sized travel adapter is my biggest wish although I must admit I’m loving this battery life on the NC10. Very impressed by it.
I agree with The ring. I was at the Samsung store in Tottenham Court Road the other day ….the salesman echoed the same views. Samsung were surprised with how popular this netbook has become…. !!!!
