MemberAnyone seen one of these in the UK for pre-order yet? They are up on Amazon and Samsung in the US but I can’t find any hint of it here in the UK 🙁
Looking like it will cost about £365 for the plus which is about what I’d want to pay.
Apparently it’s going to be released in Feb in the US but I don’t know if the release date will be the same here in the UK. Do let us know if you see it any of the shops or in any website.
I’m keen to get a pre-order in!!

MemberI’ve been keeping an eye on this one.
Scanning the usual shops I don’t see any hint of it for preorder in the UK yet. You can check out Amazon here (edit: sorry forum won’t let me post a link) but there is nothing up at all.
It’s not even on the UK Samsung site, but it is up on the US one so this does worry me a little. Is it set for a UK release at all I wonder? Surely they’d put it up on their site here too if they were going to push it.
Would be a damn shame if they held it back.

ParticipantAmazon.com will ship to the UK but it isn’t cheap. If you are really keen to get hold of one then that might be the best option right now.
It would be a shame if these don’t come here to the UK as there is definitely a bit of a buzz about this new Chromebook. The addition of Android app support has suddenly made this line very interesting indeed. Some of the limitations that put me off are instantly overcome the moment I know I have access to all (most of?) the apps in the Play store.

KeymasterYes, you can get the Chomebook Plus version on US Amazon right now and I’ve heard they will ship to the UK for $100. And then you might have to pay taxes too? Might be better if you know someone who lives in the states who might be able to import one, at least you’ll save on the shipping cost.
If anyone has tried then do let us know. I guess they’ll pop up on ebay at some point too perhaps.
Here’s the US link for anyone curious about shipping one in:

ParticipantHey, good afternoon.
I took the plunge and ordered the Chromebook Plus from Amazon US. It arrived on Tuesday.
I didn’t think total cost was bad, Chromebook including delivery and paying of import duty / VAT was £464.46 including £13 of currency conversion – I paid in USD on my card, Amazon offered a conversion of 510GBP for the same amount.
Anyway, I’ll getting used to it, android apps work really well, although I had a few issues getting them set up as it’s attached to my G-suite domain. It’s a bit complicated at first since you have to approve the apps in the Device Manager on G-Suite admin panel.
From time of ordering to say of receiving was 10 days.

ParticipantThanks you very much!! Very useful.
10 days to deliver, I could live with that. It’s not much like there is much alternative right now.
YOu pay the import duty upfront then? So no mucking around with a courier at the other end.
Any other thoughts on UK compatability, what about the charger? Did you get an adapter or is a normal USB phone charger type thing that I probably have a million of already?

ParticipantYeah, I chose (you have an option) to pay import duty to Amazon. If the amount is greater than the amount paid to Amazon, you pay no more. If it’s less, Amazon refund you.
Arrived in the condition you would expect.
It’s the best Chromebook I’ve had, (had three), although keyboard seems very slightly smaller than standard, but within an hour of hard core use it’s second nature.
The charger is a block with a wired USB c connector, the cable isn’t detachable. I just bought a couple of us to UK visitor affairs of Amazon. 3.99gbp each. Charger is rated 100v – 240v / 50/60htz, so no worries on the voltage difference either.
Samsung UK said to call them with the serial number and they’re register it for warranty.

KeymasterThanks for the info Alan. I didn’t know Amazon allowed that with importing. Good to know. I get put off by the whole import tax thing as you never quite know what to expect or how to pay it but if Amazon can take care of all that for me… Now if GBP was a bit more favourable against USD!! Can’t decide whether to hold out a bit longer for an official release or not.
(sorry about the problems registering here – i’ve adjusted some settings, hopefully it is less aggressive at blocking now!!)
