i got a virus and i need to reformat but im too noob to know how. so how do you do it? thanks.
February 17, 2009 at 3:56 am #184070Don_AudioMemberI recommend to recover winxp home.
When the NC10 boots up and the Samsung screen appears simply press F4 on the keyboard and follow the onscreen directions to recover your system to its original state.
You will loose all your documents so you might want to back them up first.
Let me know if this worked for you or if you need further assistance.

February 17, 2009 at 2:06 pm #184075rootyMemberI’ve had my NC10 for a few days now and from reading the forum am starting to wish I’d done things differently – is hitting F4 on boot a good idea, and will it let me reset the partitions, or do I need to use a different tool to do this?

[/quote1234888128]what anti-virus program did you use that allowed the virus through. that worries me that these programs don’t stop viruses.

[/quote1234892351]Recovering through F4 won’t let you reset the partitions (the partitioning is one time only).
February 17, 2009 at 6:24 pm #184076rootyMemberOK, I can’t re-partition, but is the F4 reset still a good idea to undo some of the things I wish I hadn’t?
Will I have to reinstall loads of drivers if I F4?

That depends what you wished you hadn’t done.[quote1234895164=rooty]

No, but you may need to update drivers and software. You may wish to check out the latest versions of the manuals, drivers, software, and firmware which can be downloaded from the SamsungPC website.February 17, 2009 at 8:11 pm #184071Don_AudioMemberF4 on startup will recover the NC10 back to its shipping state. Vanilla XP Home with some of the basic infos you have entered at the initial setup
February 18, 2009 at 6:27 pm #184077rootyMemberBest to back up onto the D: partition first? Or will data on there disappear as well?
February 18, 2009 at 6:32 pm #184066TCMuffinMemberAlways, always, always backup data to an external device before manipulating partitions 😉
February 19, 2009 at 6:42 am #184078rootyMemberThat’s a yes, then. Thanks TCMuffin.
February 19, 2009 at 4:26 pm #184067TCMuffinMemberYou’re welcome 🙂
February 19, 2009 at 7:25 pm #184072LoganMemberI’m thinking about starting over. Mainly because I’m thinking about ditching Windows 7 and just using XP.
I like that Windows 7 runs fine, but it still uses too much memory compared to XP. Video’s seem to stutter i.e. from BBC iPlayer whereas they don’t on XP. I think the major problem here is the Intel graphics drivers for Win 7 aren’t up to scratch like they are for XP.
I’m not really one of these that likes having multiple OS’s. I usually just pick one and stick to it.
February 19, 2009 at 7:48 pm #184068TCMuffinMemberHi Logan
Please don’t think that some of us have multiple operating systems for fun 😉
I support clients who use different operating systems and my NC10 has become one of my support tools. So it makes sense for me to have a range of operating systems available on my Sammy.
My main OS on my big laptop is Vista Business, I have a desktop which still runs XP Pro (I’ve only just removed Windows 2000 from this machine) and I use my Sammy as a test bed.
It really is whatever works for you….and given the choice….I would choose one OS and stick with it 🙂
