So I ordered my white NC10 from Amazon.com. I even selected the next day delivery shipment option. It arrived today intact and all but when I turned it on the screen says “Operating System Not Found”. WTF? There are two disks which I’m guessing is the recovery and driver discs. However, I dont have a USB DVD disk drive or anything. Who is at fault here? Amazon or Samsung? Did anyone have this happen to them??
I’m extremely pissed right now.
January 17, 2009 at 1:28 am #180173lucynethelMemberyou may have received one somebody returned?
January 17, 2009 at 1:32 am #180174lucynethelMemberI forgot…..When booting, keep F4 pressed to see if you can use the RESTORE function?
January 17, 2009 at 1:40 am #180177ConceptVBSMemberThe windows authentication sticker seems a little worn out on the bottom of the computer. Somebody must’ve used it before as the sticker is heat sensitive and worns out when heat is applied. I believed like you said lucy, that I’ve received a used product that’s been labeled “new”. Damn Amazon. I’m gonna rip them a new one.
P.S. The F4 does’nt work. Thanks.
January 17, 2009 at 2:04 am #180171AlfiharParticipantI would say it has a broken hard drive, it wasn’t imaged properly at the factory or someone messed up their Windows install (and the recovery partition) and returned it.
Did it come with the protective film over various parts?
Think they come with it over the screen and lid.Not that it matters much, as you should get a replacement.
January 17, 2009 at 2:10 am #180178ConceptVBSMemberYes, it did come with the protective cover on both the lid and the screen.
I was in the process of purchasing an External USB DVD drive anyway. I guess this will push up my decision to do so even quicker.
If I plug in the USB DVD drive into the NC10 with NO WINDOWS, will the BIOS still recognize my USB DVD drive and run the recover DVD?
It seems like the fastest was of resolving this issue.
January 17, 2009 at 2:32 am #180172AlfiharParticipantI would go into the BIOS and make sure the hard drive is listed first, there is a chance you have a broken hard drive.
And yes the BIOS will recognize and boot from a USB DVD drive when there is no OS or even no hard drive.
As a side note the recovery disks will not enable you to setup a recovery partition or get the F4 at boot to work.
January 17, 2009 at 2:56 am #180175berflesMemberGreat, now I’m worried about ordering from Amazon too (if it actually is a return). I guess I’m not supposed to buy an NC10.
January 17, 2009 at 5:17 am #180179ConceptVBSMemberUnder the Boot menu all the boot priority index says “N/A” even the IDE HDD.
Under the Main menu, IDE Channel 0 Master NONE
Does this mean that I don’t even have a hard drive on this thing???? This is unbelievable. So somebody must’ve bought it, took the hard drive out and returned it saying the computer didnt work and got their money back. Unbelievable.
January 17, 2009 at 5:24 am #180176berflesMemberI doubt there is no harddrive, the drive is probably just dead.
January 17, 2009 at 5:24 am #180180ConceptVBSMemberWell, some what good news. I lit Amazon up with a very nasty email about my situation and they agreed to send me a replacement with the same one-day overnight shipment(free of charge). Then they gave me a return slip to mail my POS broken NC10 back to them. So hopefully, this next one isn’t as broke as my current one.
