MemberHi all,
Hoping someone could help me with this query. I used my laptop just two days ago to transfer my pictures onto an external hard drive. Everything was working fine, but when I turned it on today many of the keys wont work. They seem to be random keys (Im typing this on a friends laptop). The keys now not working are space bar, E R G J C V B N M , . ; and left, up and down arrow.
Right arrow IS working.
None of the function keys are working, which leads me to believe the FN key is also kaput.
All the numbers across the top ARE working. My laptop is a Samsung N130, bought december 2009, have had a few issues with RUN.DLL errors and hardware malfunction/parity errors earlier this year, but nothing in the last few months. It has not been modified in any way. It ha been travelling with me for the first seven months of the year and so has been extremely well used. I wonder if the keyboard has burnt out (is this even possible?)
Ive taken the keyboard off and had a look underneath it, but dont want to go prying too much as I could well do more damage than good. There are no stains or sticky marks underneath, and none of the keys feel sticky when you type.
I dont recall that anything has been spilt on it, except for a few drops of water a few weeks back, but that was literally only a few drops, it was mopped up straight away and the keys have been working since.
Im really annoyed, because I now cant do anything – cant access email, update documents, save or rename files, you name it, I cant do it!!!
Would really appreciate some advice on what I can try next, or what it might be. Have done a scan for malware, trojans etc, but nothing shows up…..
Help!!!!
Thanks in advance!

MemberRather than start a new thread can I join this one. I have a very similar problem. Running an N140 for nearly a year (51 weeks) with no problems, maybe the odd thump and minor spillage. Recently I have lost the use of the “w”, “s”, right-hand shift, and delete keys. I can get round these by using backspace, left-hand-shift and by pasting ws as needed. But it’s a pain.
I have popped the keyboard out but cannot see any mechanical problems. Do I need to buy a new one? I’m hoping for a cheaper alternative.
Thankz, Kevin

MemberGet these back for Warranty Service. They will be covered if they are not spill damaged.
To ensure it’s not software related, so a complete backup image of your current machine and then restore to Initial State.
If that doesn’t fix it, go back to your current image and send for repair. -
